CA: Angelides Mum on Health Care Bill (universal healthcare -- SB840)
SFC ^ | Sept. 3, 2006 | John Wildermuth

Posted on 09/03/2006 8:34:44 PM PDT by FairOpinion

Although Phil Angelides already is gearing up to slam Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for his expected veto of state Sen. Sheila Kuehl's universal health care bill, SB 840, the Democratic hopeful has no intention of telling anyone what he would do if he actually was governor, instead of just a candidate for the job. When asked Sunday if he would sign the bill that's now on the governor's desk, Angelides refused, often and at great length, to say.

"It's a moot issue because (Schwarzenegger) is not going to sign it," the treasurer said. "It's a moot issue because it's on his desk and he's failed to do anything on health care."

Angelides then launched into a impassioned description of his own plan, which includes expanding health care to all children, cutting the profit margin for HMOs, requiring large companies to provide insurance for employees and then bringing "business leaders, consumers and health experts together to move California toward universal health care."

But what about Kuehl's bill, which would eliminate private health insurance in the state. Not only would it provide the universal health care Angelides wants to work toward, but it's already been passed by the Democrat-controlled Legislature.

"This bill, which is going to be vetoed in a nanosecond by this governor, is just a reflection of his failure, so it's a moot issue," he said.

But if Phil Angelides was governor of California, would he sign this bill?

"I'm going to say one more time, it's a moot issue," he answered. "It's a bill on (Schwarzenegger's) desk. It's a signal when he vetoes it of his failure to do anything on the issue of health care."

Angelides is definitely for "working towards" socialized medicine, he just can't come out and say he would definitely sign this socialized medicine bill, because his focus groups told him, that most people in CA are against it.

But note the large difference between Arnold and Angelides.

This socialized medicine bill could destroy CA on its own.

"This socialized medicine bill could destroy CA on its own."

Which is why I wish he WOULD sign it! Socialized medicine has been a demonstrable failure in virtually every country where it has been tried, and still yet hard headed socialists here continue to work toward its establishment. Perhaps if a state implemented it, and it failed as it has done elsewhere, people may wake up and realize how much of a mistake it is.

They're both working towards that objective. They just won't sign it in an election year.

You obviously don't live in CA, or you wouldn't wish that on us.

One wouldn't wish that on one's worst enemy, or maybe ON one's worst enemy.

There is plenty of evidence of the disaster of socialized medicine from the E. European countries to the UK and Canada.

You keep making statements about Arnold which are FALSE, and there is not a shred of evidence to back it up, in fact there is evidence to the contrary.

Like what? His support of a minimum wake hike? His support of "global warming" mandates on businesses? His suppport of unnecessary new borrowing in the billions, which amount to a hidden tax increase upon our economy? All that's Arnold's record. Arnold has said he's against higher taxes and socialized medicine on the campaign trail. I expect to hear that from a politician. What I don't trust is his word.

CA: Barring big changes in landscape, he'll be back - Schwarzenegger well ahead of Angelides
San Diego Union-Tribune ^ | September 3, 2006 | John Marelius

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1694921/posts

---

“Schwarzenegger is systematically defusing Democratic ammunition on minimum wage, health care and other issues – hence the flip-flopping charge,” said Jack Pitney, a professor of government at Claremont McKenna College. “The trouble with that is that the governor is flipping in the popular direction. The people who are getting an increase in the minimum wage are happy to get it, even though he previously opposed it.”

Schwarzenegger has said he would put health care at the top of the agenda in a second term. But beyond that, he has offered few clues as to what the next four years might hold if he's re-elected.

---

FO,, Maybe you can offer some insight as to his next 4 years, you're so full of good info.. or claim to be.

One can only imagine what a SchwarzenKennedy-inspired health care program would involve.

There is hope for California, as long as Arnold is there to stop the worst excesses of the liberals. Being in a liberal state, he can't do much more (as the failure of the initiatives proved) - but that's enough for now.

Well, if conservatives would start supporting Arnold, I mean really supporting him, he might try to resurrect his conservative propositions of taking the power from the unions, take redistricting out of the hands of Legislature and limit spending (old Prop 76).

But as long as conservatives side with the Dems against Arnold, he is very limited with what he can do.

But at least he can keep vetoing socialized medicine bills churned out by the Dem Legislature.

Oh, I know, those conservatives are so untrustworthy and a bunch of backstabbers, huh?

Too bad He will be long gone before the dems ... It's a demographics thing, yaknow.

Well, just have him veto what he can and try not to borrow too much more money before the bottom falls out of the old Trojan Horse. It wouldn't look good on his resume.

ROFL

What might be examples of the worst excesses of liberals?

Would it be:

1) Increasing spending
2) Increasing spending in excess of available revenue
3) Borrowing to increase spending when the money is gone
4) Borrowing to cover operating expenses
5) Increasing taxation instead of cutting spending
6) Disenfranchising Republicans in the budgeting process
7) Working with Democrats to suppress Republican objections
8) Using Eminent Domain to enhance private wealth
9) Using bureaucratic authority to enhance private wealth
10) Using the initiative process to bypass constitutional protections

ROFLMAO, California is a liberal state and you act like it's Alabama or something. If you are Californian, everything you cite is inevitable because almost everyone around you wants it. LOL!

The list is composed of complaints voiced publicly by members of the Republican Caucus in both houses of the legislature. These complaints of liberal excesses weren't directed toward an elected Democrat.

Remember Hillary Clinton?

;>

She attempted to take down the US Economy by seizing control of 1/7th of the economy -- healthcare. Dems in CA are continuing to try to carry water for Hillary by taking down CALIFORNIA, 1/6 of the national economy. Health firms like Kaiser have been too cozy with CA Dems for overlong. The whole U-health thing is an election year rhubarb brought about by CA Dems. So that when Arnold Vetoes the idiotic thing, Angelides has an affirmative-action shot at railing about the evvvvvvvvils of Republicans.

GEe-od.

Angelides and Fabio Nunez are both girlie men.
