I agree that most unions have served their purpose, but I do still feel that teacher's unions are important...teachers consist of one of our most vital assets, and are horribly underpaid for their work. Service workers unions, I really don't have enough facts on to make a call yet, but industrial unions are more or less irrelevant now.

Teachers unions like the NEA (National Educators Association) are one of the biggest problems facing US education today. By their groupthink political correctness, they have stripped academic pursuit of excellence and replaced it with anti-Americanism, pro-gay agenda and revisionist history.

Oh please - teachers underpaid ? What a joke. With benefits, a teacher with 7 years experience in my school district is making upwards of $75k for a 10 month work year. You call that underpaid ?

Are you or anyone in your family a teacher? And what is the purpose of a teacher's union? Are teachers measured on performance? Can they be fired? Do they work 2,080 hours a years less 10 holidays and two weeks vacation?

that's one thing about unions...

you are no better or compensated any better than any of the other schlubs who can show up on time.

the hell with personal excellence or pay based on results.

Time to dump the Teachers Unions too!

what a line of BS.......It's the teachers unions and the civil service unions that are bankrupting NY State. The Taylor law, tribourough amendment and wickes law will be the demise of this state. I don't know where you live but don't ask to loudly, you just may get it.

Anyone have any figures on how many members of the NEA are actually horribly underpaid teachers, and how many are horribly overpaid administrators, bureaucrats, and other conduits for siphoning membership dues to the DNC et al.?

Teachers' unions today are the instruments of socialism. They embrace causes that have nothing to do with education, and spend their members' (compulsory) dues to promote them.

They are also conspiring to raise a generation of ahistorical mush-heads, and their performance is the proof.

If teacher's unions are so useful why after all of these years of existence are teachers "underpaid"? If teachers' unions supported innovative ways to measure teacher performance and actually cared about implementing a culture of excellence, I may actually support them. They don't, so I don't.

Any conservative or REPUB that belongs to the NEA is silly. You do realize they give money for gun control, abortion, immigrant, gay marriage activist groups. Have you checked out what your UNION supports. Alot of teachers refuse to join. I have 3 family members who are teachers and do not belong to the UNION. If UNIONS would just deal with job related issues and stay out of social issues they might be liked more. However they have become to be what they really always were a left wing political machine. First controlled by Commies, Then the Mafia and now the Socialists. They make me ill.

Sure. Keep 'em safe to spread their leftist schpiel.

Let's see... nine months work for twelve months pay. An air conditioned comfortable environment. Protection courtesy of the union. Gotta love that.

RE: Service workers unions

SEIU works with ANSWER wants illegals for amnesty, "free" universal healthcare and funnels millions into the DNC...

WONDERFUL?
