Editor's note: This Letter of the Week is in response to a letter to the editor that appeared Aug. 29. It is reprinted here for the reader's convenience: Just thought you'd like to know that most, if not all, medical personnel here in Miami are endorsing and voting for Charlie Crist for governor. I'm a physician in Miami and my colleagues, both doctors and nurses, have been strong advocates against any public official who had the audacity to interfere in what should have been a family medical decision. Yes, that's right. Our hospital had a poll two weeks ago which showed that 96 percent of us are voting for Crist, and we hold politicians accountable. Terri Schiavo had the cognition of a bag of lettuce. We've had many cases like hers since, but we're smarter now. We'll never let the religious fright know. The psychochristians, like you, have no place in the medical field. Neither do ignoramuses like the Schindlers. If you're interested, we're having a huge celebration after Charlie wins next week. Gallagher doesn't have a chance in hell of winning. Sorry!

I read the letter from Dr. Linda regarding Terri Schiavo with horrified fascination. I should not be surprised by her statements. I should be used to such arrogant expressions from members of the medical community.
All who read Dr. Linda's letter are hereby placed on notice that there is definite moral rot in the medical community. A physician who compares a disabled individual's brain to a "bag of lettuce" is capable of all manner of transgressions against human life and dignity. There are many profoundly retarded individuals that, I hazard to guess, Dr. Linda would compare to "a bag of lettuce" or a "turnip" or various other kinds of vegetables. She may attempt to draw distinctions between Terri and other cognitively disabled individuals – but she has no moral foundation for doing so.
Once individuals are "sorted out" by cognitive abilities, there is no stopping it.
Further, Dr. Linda's insult of Terri's loving parents as ignoramuses, while in the same breath declaring this to be a "family medical decision" shows the hypocrisy at work in the "futilitarian" branch of the medical community. This is very apparent in Texas as we battle the Texas "Futile Care Statute," where physicians are allowed to withdraw treatment they deem to be "inappropriate" against the wishes of families and patients.
In the Texas cases, the families are presented the "choice" of ending or continuing life-sustaining treatments. It is first approached as a "family medical decision." But, the moment a family chooses a continuation of life-sustaining treatments, they are treated with condescension, cruelty and verbal brutality. They become "ignoramuses" in the eyes of the health providers – just as Terri's family is so considered by Dr. Linda.
The present danger, to us all is that a bunch of "the anointed," as Thomas Sowell has termed such people, who believe that their education and knowledge should trump the social values of our society, have begun to wrest control of the medical profession away from those who value human life. They believe that they, alone, should make decisions about whose life is valuable enough to receive medical treatments.
These "anointed" have grafted a parallel set of ethics upon our communities. Time and time again, as we in Texas fight these pronouncements by futilitarians that treatment should be withdraw from patients in different Texas cities, we find the local community at large to be shocked and horrified that such thinking exists in "their" medical community.
Rather than allowing the medical community to force these values upon us, we should push back and let them know that, in no uncertain terms, we, the taxpayers and citizens of this country, will not be ruled by a "self-anointed elite." Our Judeo-Christian society values human life and will continue to do so – even in the face of so-called experts like Dr. Linda who see our beloved disabled family members as nothing more than "bags of lettuce."

There are other vital issues, of course- but these three will determine just who we really are as a nation.
Crist supporters keep quoting polls (in which his "lead" has dwindled significantly even according to them). But not only have primary polls in Florida come up wrong by a wide margin nearly every time, the polls cited are based in the Tampa Bay and Pinellas area, with very few Republicans polled in other counties.
Calling from the Gallagher campaign has been random and has shown a very different picture. Since the debates people called have been about 60% for Gallagher, 35% undecided and very few for Crist. All are turned off by Crist's doubletalk, lies and overall lack of trustworthiness.
Dr. Linda is dreaming as most liberals do in general. Doesn't the letter show you how sick most doctors are? It took me a long time to find a doctor who isn't a snot and who believes in strong family values. He's also in Miami and he's a good conservative. I didn't ask him who he's voting for but he's definitely pro-life and would probably agree that the only (pompous wind)bag of lettuce in this post is Dr. Linda.
Thanks for showing us a true example of how low Crist's supporters generally are. It's imperative that Gallagher win to preserve a conservative Republican Party of Florida. We don't need 2 Democrat parties and the base here has finally realized that that's what we'd be getting with Crist.

Terri Schindler Schiavo was an aware of self human being who could laugh and cry and to the limits of her severely injured abilities, she could talk. The woman loved ice cream, and loved her father's jokes, and her mother's voice. Terri Schindler Schiavo screamed for her life. What happened here was a homicide.
...What happened here was no less evil than murders committed under color of law you investigated for so many years. You do remember, in another time, killers came first for the weak and disabled. What happened here had nothing to do with right to life or right to die; nothing to do with government intruding into private family decisions. This was about a husband's need to dispose of an inconvenient wife; it was about government exploiting that husband, using this case to establish a precedent for "futile care" disposal of worthless human flesh. And to accomplish that purpose, politically connected people here successfully crafted "designer legislation" as an outgrowth of the governor's 1999 commission on death and dying. It was about an attorney general.... and state attorney shutting down a investigation of issues on several potential felony criminal fronts. This was about what was to have been a most of a million dollar easy payday for lawyers hired to kill."

FINALLY, CHARLIE CRIST'S FINGERPRINTS ARE ON A DCF FILE THAT HE SAID IN A PRESS CONFERENCE THAT HE NEVER SAW BECAUSE IT DIDN'T EXIST.
One of Florida's worst agencies, DCF, inadvertently returned the file w/Crist's fingeprints on it to the Complainant. DCF realized their error and wanted the file back. They were refused. The file is in an undisclosed location w/his fingerprints on it. Thank God I don't know where it is.
Oh ya, especially Miami doctors - arrogant, dumb, reactionary, staunch democrats who only differ with their partay (sic) on tort reform - making Rinocrat Crist their ideal candidate.

They're all accomplices except for Mitch Turner. He tried to help Terri so they transferred him.
It would be a good idea to send the media details about the file and the lies (just one small lie among Crist's 1,000,000). Some won't report it but others will. Let people know what kind of liar they're up against.

That's not what Tom Gallagher is about. It's a Crist supporter who launched on Joe Farah because he urged Floridians to vote for Tom Gallagher. Why would Tom Gallagher's supporter scream at WND because Farah endorsed Gallagher? That makes no sense at all. I thank WND for exposing Florida's culture of death. Yes, it sounds hard to believe and they do not do this to everyone but it's big business.
