Snake Slithers Into Car, Causing Chaos and Confusion
KTBS ^ | September 1, 2006

You could call this the local sequel of the movie "Snakes on a Plane."

It was "Snake in a Car." No A-list actors, though. Just one snake and three "rattled" women. A snake crawled inside Partica Murray's Monte Carlo. The reptile slithered out when she stopped at the Wal-Mart on Mansfield Road.

Murray tried to flush the snake out by tossing oil at it, but it only retreated into the car's engine. The Shreveport Fire Department tried to flush the snake out. Caddo Animal Control tried pepper spray and that didn't work. Even mothballs were tossed on the engine. Finally, a good samaritan thought he would use a technique told to him by a friend. He took some sulphur and put a circle around a pan, lit and and tried to smoke the snake out of hiding. All he did was set the trunk on fire.

After waiting for several hours, Murray couldn't wait any longer. She hopped in the car and drove off, snake and all. As for her daughter and daughter-in-law, they followed behind in another car.

I nominate that guy for the Darwin Award.

Okay, so it's a Saturday Night Stretch, but could "Partica Murray" be a US Senator from Washington State?

Just this once?

I used a coathanger to get a snake out of a lady's car a few weeks ago. Wasn't difficult.

The damn snake wasn't even in the passenger compartment!

I grabbed a big bullsnake in my yard one time and was going to drive him out in the country and let him go. I was driving with one hand and holding him (behind the head) with the other. He managed to get his entire body tangled in the springs under the seat, and I had a hell of a time getting him out. Now, if I see a snake, I just ignore him. Unless it's a rattler, then I kill him.

I'm a little bit confused. Was this snake in the car it self, or just under the hood? Also if it was under the hood how did the trunk get set on fire?

"Snake Slithers Into Car, Causing Chaos and Confusion"

Very confusing when you realize that snakes can't drive a stick-shift. The clutch - accelerator combination is confusing and physically impossible for them. That's why I only buy cars with automatic transmissions, because you never know.

It was "Snake in a Car."

Stupid snake!

It could have made many more media feeds if it were to slither into an SUV instead.

Okay, why did she throw oil at it? Why did anyone think that doing any of these other things would cause the snake to leave? A snake's instinct when threatened is to find some small place to hide and stay there until the danger has passed. Any of the things done here would only make the snake more likely to hide somewhere and stay there. If the car heated up too much during the two hours that they were standing around, the snake may have overheated and died somewhere in the engine compartment.

I guess I should be careful about being too critical. I'm on a list to help deal with nuisance snakes in my parish. I doubt that anyone will ever call, but if they did, I could end up in a parking lot somewhere trying to solve the same problem. I think I'd try to put some ice in the engine where I suspect the snake of being. If his hiding spot became too cold and there wasn't too much confusion around, he might try to move to a safer place.

Bill
