That is by far the FUNNIEST thing I've read in a long tme. I'll be emailing this to all my friends in LA. The scary thing is this is how LA would probably react! It does make me homesick though, lol.

I lived in Brentwood and worked in Manhattan Beach. I usually took Sepulveda most of the time. I never had any problems (thank God).

It's kinda odd. LAX seems to be having more than their fair share of power outages and system failures.

Thanks, Howlin. They didn't even do a "breaking news" on it, just casually said "there's a power outage at LAX."

Car chases and drive-by shootings must be more important than one of the busiest international airports.

You're better off leaving your car at home and taking a shuttle van to the airport. You save a bundle on parking fees and you don't have to remember where you left the car when you return home. And yeah - driving around the airport terminal circle is not my idea of a good time. Too much risk of an accident at LAX.

Since flights are still coming and going I meant arriving and departing maybe they did work. Finally

5th glitch in a little over a month.

It's kinda odd. LAX seems to be having more than their fair share of power outages and system failures.

July 18: A surge protection system designed to protect backup generators from power spikes failed at an FAA communications center in Palmdale. The facility that directs high-altitude traffic lost power for two hours and controllers briefly were unable to see or talk with pilots.

July 26: The aural alarm on ground radar equipment designed to alert controllers in the LAX tower to potential collisions was shut off after the system put out a false alert, minutes before a turboprop narrowly missed a regional jet that had strayed too close to its runway. Controllers could still see airplanes on the screen.

Aug. 7 : An instrument landing system on LAX's south airfield that sends radio beams into cockpits to help pilots orient themselves to the runway shut itself off after the signal was interrupted. FAA officials don't know what caused the malfunction. Flights were delayed for the rest of the day.

Aug. 14 : The instrument landing system failed for a second time.

LOL, yes, driving around LAX is at least interesting if not risky. I remember well flying back into LAX in 2004, standing at the curb waiting for one of the car lot shuttles to transport me to the car lot when there was a huge accident. At the same time, there was an "explosive device" found at the departing flights section in the Bradley Terminal so people were pouring out of that building. Sidewalks and curbs got very crowded.

The back-up traffic caused by the minor fender bender and the terminal evacuation was hours long. It was "so L.A., yeh know?" ;-)

Meanwhile Ping on the updated story.

LAX Los Angeles Power Outage

Why is this non-event a subject of discussion?
Are you telling me that LAX does not have backup generators to keep the system running, in case the main power supply fails?
Hard to believe, than again it is a slow and uneventful Saturday....!
