Karl Rove, the presidents chief political adviser, is struggling to steer the Republican Party to victory this fall at a time when he appears to have the least political authority since he came to Washington, party officials said.
Mr. Rove remains a dominant adviser to President Bush, administration officials say. But outside the White House, as Mr. Bushs popularity has waned, and as questions have arisen among Republicans about the White Houses political acumen, the partys candidates are going their own way in this difficult election season far more than they have in any other campaign Mr. Rove has overseen.
Some are disregarding Mr. Roves advice, despite his reputation as the nations premier strategist. They are criticizing Mr. Bush or his policies. They are avoiding public events with the president and Mr. Rove....

"Poll points to GOP resurge
By Donald Lambro August 31, 2006
Republicans have moved closer to the Democrats in a congressional voter-preference poll just as the election campaigns near the official Labor Day starting gate. The surprising findings in a little-noticed Gallup Poll that were ignored by most of the national news media shows the Democrats barely leading the Republicans by just two points -- 47 percent to 45 percent. After months of generic polling numbers by Gallup and others showing the GOP lagged far behind the Democrats by a seemingly insurmountable nine to 10 points, the titanic political battle for control of Congress is virtually dead even. This means we may not experience the feared Category 5 political storm some election analysts have forecast that would topple the GOP's House majority and cut deeply into its grip on the Senate. The venerable and respected Gallup organization, which did the poll for USA Today, said the GOP's unexpected rise in the polls "represents the Republicans' best performance in a single poll during the 2006 election cycle on this important measure of electoral strength." The libs will be scratching their little heads after their Congressional losses in November. I can't wait!
This article is a plot by Jedi Master Rove....
The New York Times, the chief adviser to the demented Democraps, struggle to give their bathhouse boys in the newsroom the pretense of being journalists.
"Rove, you magnificent bastard."
How in the world would the New York Slimes have any idea what the GOP is doing?
They are no longer even a crdible news source about news in general, let alone what the GOP does and thinks!
Yes, we ought to have some reasonable level of immigration, but something like 65-80% of American voters want the borders secured now, and illegal aliens deported.
You are so very correct. Rove has delivered a tri trifecta (2000, 2002, 2004) to the GOP.
Gallop seems to get closer to the truth as elections draw near, so they won't be totally discredited. Early on most of the polls weight their numbers heavy toward the dim side in hopes of convincing the voters that all is lost.
"This midterm election presents Mr. Rove with a particularly difficult challenge. Beyond testing his reputation for always finding a way to win"
His strategy? Let Democrats speak out. LOL.
"Turnout and Terrorism"
Turnout, ok. Otherwise blah. Luckily the Democrats, again, will offer no policies, and will run against non-competitor Bush.
You nailed it!
In 2004, Rove turned a landslide against a moron into a near loss. In 2006, his obsession with amnesty and pandering for a hispanic vote that is already wrapped up by the Dems will result in loss of Congress.
"I'm not the evil genius you're looking for."
"You're not the evil genius we're looking for."
"I can go about my business."
"You can go about your business."
"Move along."
"Move along."
They just print stories about what they 'hope' is true and try to will it into reality. Wait until they find out about the last generic congressional ballot poll by Gallup putting us only 2 points down - they are going to have a cow!
What are Republican incumbents doing now?
Nancy, is that you?
What Bush fears most is a leftward swing into Chavezland with this Obrador character. Not only did the Marxist SOB get half the votes, his party stole'em where they needed seats, and has brought the legitimate government in the capital to a halt.
I think legitimacy will prevail after a while, but Rove and Bush must be sweating bullets over this on the oil price issue alone. If this goes bad, the GOP is toast. ... Especially after Bush and Rove have turned a blind eye to illegal immigration in order to give Mexico the 'Safety Valve' it needs ... not to mention the remittances it needs ... to survive as democratic republic of sorts.
I am not a Rove fan, but I hope his plans for this Fall enable us to ride out the season with only minimal losses and that they have a plan for dealing with a contrary Mexican government.
