I hate bullies. Let's do something about it. What say we get a bunch of FReepers to object to their website pillory of this kid, and ask 'em nicely to take that part of their site down.

Our next encounter was a life-changing defining event for me.

That's what you and I think and we do desreve it, but, fortunately, we're not running heaven and earth. Instead God, who is at heart a lover (#1) and an effective fighter (#2) just can't stop loving us. It isn't that we're lovable; it's that He's loving and can't get over it.
God so loved the world (that's mankind) that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
Tried your soup recipe yesterday (wanted to impress the wife). Tasted like melted plastic smells, with a hint of wet dog near the back of the tongue. Is it some kind of sick joke or did I dick it up?
I sympathize with this kid. My middle school years in the mid-sixties were daily torture because I'd been "chosen" as the subject for ridicule. It really was two years of unremitting pain. Children can be particularly cruel because they haven't learned how to "civilize" their sadistic tendencies. Many adults have the same tendencies but the behavior isn't as tolerated so they learn how to moderate it (sometimes!). I don't know if this boy should have sued, but I understand how he feels. It took *me* up to my mid-twenties to realize my tormentors were wrong and that I was okay.

The article said the parents were sued for $351,000. I'm not sure that's what they got. It said an out-of-court settlement was reached.
I believe that all children who are potential targets for bullies ( and parents know if their child is one, if they have half a clue) should be in martial arts programs. First it gives them the self confidence they need to believe inthemselves. Second, it gives them the ability to stand up for themselves when the need to.
Also when I was substitute teaching and involved in martial arts, I noticed a student being loud, pushing a kid, being bad in the hallway, etc. I also noticed that he had a tae kwan do tournament shirt on. I asked him if he participated in the tournament and he said yes. Then I ripped him a new one and told him I would be calling his instructor about his behavior. He turned about 4 shades of green and I never heard from him again. Even bullies fear their karate instructors.
