While I am concerned that the Mayoralty may go to Jackson that is no certainty and Brown's entry into the race will complicate it. Daley could probably lose the RAT primary, run as an independent and win though.

I confess I don't understand how a prosecutor as shrewd as Fitzgerald good have allowed this to go on unless it is a cover for something more important.

He accepted the Lefty assertions that Plame was outed as revenge against Wilson, without questioning the validity.

I am genuinely shocked that Fitzgerald would make public comments about Libby being the first source of Plame's identity when he knew that was not the case.

His motives are suspect.

There has been some speculation that the entire Wilson/Plame story is a diversion from more sinister actions:

That does not specifically explain Fiztgerald's actions, but it does help to understand the timing of all this distancing from Wilson that seems to be going on. The court decision about the Jefferson documents seized from his office was due (according to the above link) on the very day that the Armitage connection was more or less confirmed in the Isikoff/Corn story. That the Jefferson decision has not yet been announced is interesting . . .
