(TV political analyst/Dem candidate Alan) Lichtman: Arrest at Senate Debate was Unnecessary (LOL)

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Democratic Senate candidate Alan Lichtman said Friday his arrest for trespassing at a televised senatorial debate the night before was unnecessary because he was involved in a peaceful protest.

He was protesting the decision by sponsors of the debate to allow only Ben Cardin and Kweisi Mfume to participate.

Lichtman and his wife, Karyn Strickler, were arrested along with a campaign worker when they tried to enter the Maryland Public Television building and refused repeated requests to leave a small vestibule at the entrance to the building.

"I did not have to be arrested because I was not interfering with any activities at MPT," Lichtman said in a statement released by his campaign that was labeled, "Letter from a Baltimore County Jail."

"MPT could have let me stand there and talk and held their debate," he said.

The debate was limited to Cardin and Mfume because they were the only two candidates meeting the League of Women Voters' criteria by polling at least 15 percent in independent polls.

Two other candidates - former Baltimore County senator Dennis Rasmussen and Montgomery County businessman Josh Rales - also showed up to protest their exclusion, but did not join Lichtman in trying to get into the building.

Another smarmy TV political 'expert' who turns out to be a leftist, and a goofy one at that.

BTW, he appears to be shorter than Daschle. Brian Wilson towered over him in the Fox News story on this.

I think that in political debates, all genuine candidates should be allowed to participate. Let them mouth off so we can see who they really are.

From Nov. 2000:

DC FREEPERS: FREEP WMAL -- Lichtman is an Ideologue in Disguise

"If you're in the DC area, you've probably listened to the often-nauseating "Charlie Warren Show" on WMAL. Wednesday night, for the 10th millionth time, Warren had Allan Lichtman on the air as some sort of unbiased, academic analyst of presidential politics. Well, Lichtman is clearly pro-Gore, and when a caller pointed that out Wednesday night, Lichtman exploded in anger: "How can you say that? What evidence do you have of that?! I'm tired of all of this labeling!" But if you go to the following website, you'll see that Lichtman is a CONSULTANT to GORE: http://www.american.edu/cas/faculty.shtml#HISTORY."

And if you search the American U. website, you eventually can find his bio:

http://www.american.edu/cas/hist/faculty.html#Faculty

"...has provided commentary for all major U.S. broadcasting networks, and cable companies, the Voice of America, and many foreign broadcast companies, including BBC and CBC. He worked with Dan Rather as a CBS consultant during the impeachment of President Clinton, served as 2004 election night analyst for BBC Worldwide, and is now the political analyst for CNN Headline News."

He's a total weasel.
