AWOL Soldier Refuses to Return to Iraq
Democracy Now ^

Posted on 09/01/2006 10:39:19 AM PDT by stm

We hear from a soldier who is refusing to fight in Iraq. Mark Wilkerson has been AWOL for more than a year and is turning himself in at Fort Hood in Texas today. In a taped video statement he says, "I am not willing to kill or be killed for something I don't believe in. My morals said going to Iraq was not the right thing to do." I was not going to live a life of violence." [includes rush transcript]

Something for nothing... their mantra. Benefits without obligation. Didn't they use to execute deserters? A few of these televised might get the point across.

Excellent point, I wonder how close the US Marshals were to catching him. I had an E-6 of mine go AWOL after he came up hot on the whiz quiz. After 30 days it was turned over to the US Marshals. It took them about 6 months to catch him.

Maybe, but I would still rather be in the USAF on a bad day then the Army on a good day.

" Generals Washington, Jackson, and Patton would have hanged you by now."

Not so sure about Washington.

Maybe Cindy Shehan will be his surrogate mom now that his own mother will probably disown him.

IIRC, the soldier in question was suffering from--among other things--dysentery.

They interviewed some of his buddies after the movie came out, and he was (a) really embarrassed by bodily functions, and (b) really ashamed of himself that he couldn't be up on line with his buddies--he felt as if he were a weakling for getting sick.

New liberal poster boy.

Exactly. This turd is now a hero to the anti-war left -- the Communist wing of the Communist party.

Instead, it should be stockade time...for the duration plus five.

He didn't think the Army involved any "violence" when he joined??? This guy is way too stupid to be a soldier.

He just wanted the freebies.

Judy Benjamin: I think they sent me to the wrong place.
Capt. Lewis: Uh-huh.
Judy Benjamin: See, I did join the army, but I joined a different army. I joined the one with the condos and the private rooms.
