So when's the last time you rapelled onto a moving platform from a helicopter, Rambo?
Not entirely a bad idea. The King of Jerusalem, had the Crusader Kingdoms survived, would today be Juan Carlos de Bourbon, King of Spain. On their way there, in Genoese and Venetian ships, they might also find the time to sack Constantinople, and resettle the plague of Muslims in Europe firmly back in Islamic lands.
One Arabic word for "foreigner" to this day: ferenji i.e., a Frenchman or a Frank.
¡Santiago y a ellos!
About the same time Rambo came out in the movies USNA '86. But I dont need to prove myself to the likes of a "rudeboy". Semper Fi
Get back to your lurking.
Did I miss something? Did somebody make a disparaging remark about he competence or bravery of the Spanish Armed Forces on this thread?
I was fantasizing about return of the Middle East to Christian control. I don't actually expect it before the Second Coming.
and Comments 5, 8 and 9.
Oh, that?! I just thought that was a joke. Not really worthy to get upset about -- at least for me.
As for the other comment about "slapping the coward", I figured that was a reference to the Spanish PM & their political situation at home.
Maybe it's just me, but I assume that naval commandos are competent & their bravery is not to be questioned regardless of nationality.
see comment # 29
The picture shows them fast roping, not rappelling. Since you don't know the difference, if you look closely you will see two guys on the same rope. That should be your first clue. Your second clue should be the size of the rope. Normally 7/16 inch rope is used for tactical rappels. Fast rope is 1.75 inch in diameter. Given the distance to the ship, the size should be obvious, Rambo.
That's great, now I know the difference! (But I never claimed I did, Einstein).
Mark my words.
I'm not so sure... it all depends on what was motivating the Spanish withdrawal from Iraq. I suspect that there's a fair amount of knee-jerk anti-Americanism at work in Europe. Pulling Spanish troops out of Iraq was a way to stick it to America in general and GWB in particular.
Spain, France & Italy may just have more staying power in Lebanon. Note I said "may".
If the Spain/France/Italy team can portray this as aimed at Israeli or US dominance in the region, then their publics might support it. Again, I said "might".
If so let's hope that this round goes better than the first SEVEN where only the first resulted in any gains...and those were soon eradicated. By and large between internecine squabbling and utter military defeat, the Crusaders had their A$$E$ well and truly KICKED!
This is all fine and I am actually happy to see European forces taking on a mission without us holding their hands (Bosnia and Kosovo anyone). But I am kind of confused as to why Germany is not taking a more active role. After all, they have soldiers in Afghanistan and the Balkans, so it can't be the clause in their Constitution that forbids them to be deployed outside Germany. If there is one nation in Europe that has supported Israel over the past 60 years it has been Germany and public pressure to protect Israel would resonate there. What gives?
We're sure getting to that 15,000 number rather quickly. LOL
By 2349, we should be there.
As Jerry Seinfeld would say, "Not that there's anything wrong with that!"
Very good! But I think we're in Monty Python territory.
This is being done to protect the UN and the Alianza de Civilizaciones (project of Bambi, aka Zapatero Rodriguez) that the EU is promoting. It will be really sad when they all get their heads chopped off by the Muzzies. However, the Spanish military was the group that demanded that they at least be allowed to be armed when they were there, so at least somebody knows what's up.
I believe this is going to end up no place good.
