As expected, the California Senate on Thursday approved a bill that would limit purchases of electricity from coal-fired power plants by the state's electric utilities and large companies.
The bill, passed previously by the state Assembly, now moves to the desk of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is expected to sign it. A separate measure to limit greenhouse gas emissions among all heavy industry is also expected to be passed Thursday.
Together, the two steps would make California by far the most active state in combating global warming. The electricity measure, Senate Bill 1368, would prohibit new long-term contracts for basic power supplies from coal-fired generating stations, at least until such power plants install equipment that would greatly reduce emissions of greenhouse gases. California doesn't have any coal-fired plants, but its utilities get about 20% of their supplies from coal-fired plants in other western states.

I'd love to see a power crisis and the only energy available is from coal powered plants out of state. But no juice comes from the plants because they would be in violation of the CA law.
BAAAWAAAA!
Sigh.
It may happen natural as businesses leave the state.
and when black-outs and brown-outs inevitably come, they think its a conspiracy.
Yep, and then it's the fault of 'big business' and they launch an investigation, conducted by bureaucrats of course. The problem is that NON of them have ever had a real job in business. They live and breathe theory and are now bent on implementing all of their theories, the results of which we all have to live with.
I remember getting interviewed by a TV crew during the big electricity shortages in 2000(?). It was in Sacramento.
The newsperson came up to me and asked me if was doing anything different during the crisis and would I mind be interviewed for the local news. They were doing the local "man on the street" type interviews.
I said yes and would be I'd be glad to take the time.
The newsperson, sound man, makeup person for newsperson, sound person, and camera man, stopped, setup and checked sound, background and lights (it was in a bookstore), and then said "action".
People in the store were standing back and watching news being made. It was quite the little crowd. The stage was set.
The newsperson said "Hi, this is so and so with the XXX news team , blah, blah, blah, etc." standard intro. He then put the microphone to me and asked:
"Are you doing anything different during the energy crisis?"
I put on my best poker face and answered:
"Why yes, I'm lighting the inside of my home with an arc welder".
It took a bit of time for a reaction, there were deadpan looks all around. However, they turned slowly to disappointment on the part of the "news team". I'd say they were looking downright sour.
The interview was terminated.
Needless to say I didn't make it onto the 10 oclock news. True story :-)
There was a bill that passed in the Senate yesterday requiring the PUC to allot at least 10% of the overall funds for the California Solar Initiative ($3 BILLION) to installation of solar energy systems on low-income residential housing. The mandates and regulations just keep coming!
It is insane. And you know what is worse?
The escapees from that insane asylum will move to other states ... and vote Democrat! That's like spreading a bad virus!
Yesterday's power crisis or tomorrow's? Or are the sponsors the same?

Don't forget the new "Frontier Line" and Arnold's "clean coal" initiatives.

ROFLMHO!!!!!!!!!!
I think it can still be imported... for the right price.
It looks to be part of the design of this new "crisis" they are building.
"The hilarious part of the energy crisis a few years was that Kaleefornia was so desperate for energy that it paid polluting companies for power and paid any fines generated from the pollution. Classic case of the inmates running the asylum."
And doesn't this make you look forward to the possibility of Speaker of the House Miss America?!
I would tell them I've got all my cars idling out on the driveway hooked up to inverters. Of course there's a lot of running back and forth to the gas station and the cul-de-sac is getting a bit smoggy - but we got lights!
