JOHN Howard has singled out Muslim migrants for refusing to embrace Australian values and urged them to fully integrate by treating women as equals and learning to speak English.
The call for a shift in attitude among some Muslims infuriated community leaders last night, and comes as The Australian can reveal the Prime Minister's own Islamic advisers have already accused Mr Howard and senior ministers of fuelling hatred and mistrust by using "inflammatory and derogatory" language.
Mr Howard said: "There is a section, a small section of the Islamic population, and I say a small section ... which is very resistant to integration.
"Fully integrating means accepting Australian values, it means learning as rapidly as you can the English language if you don't already speak it," the Prime Minister said during a radio talkback discussion.
"And it means understanding that in certain areas, such as the equality of men and women ... people who come from societies where women are treated in an inferior fashion have got to learn very quickly that that is not the case in Australia."
The comments prompted a fierce reaction from young female Islamic leader Iktimal Hage-Ali, a member of the Prime Minister's advisory group. She accused Mr Howard of threatening to further marginalise Muslims. "There's no value in pointing out the minority of the Muslim group," she said.

I too, fled California, the Bay Area. I was a Yuppy when I moved there. Once I got serious about this whole being an adult and living thing, I looked around and realized I did not fit. between the state buying a redwood forest from a 4th generation family for $900million dollars while raising taxes for schools to denouncing MTBE and raising the price of gas to try and clean up the cleaning fuel additive, I was about to go crazy. I feared that stupid might be contagious and evacuated myself and my fiance.
Accept Australian values or get out

I used to live in LA, liked it, LA is fun. Then I lived in the "Bay Area", SF and I hated it.
My ex did me a favor when she told me that she needed "her space" ( to share, as it turns out with the husband of mutual "friends") and told me to take a hike. It coincided with my parents need for care since dad had Alzheimer's disease. So into the Uhaul went my life and body back to "the sticks".
With a broadband connection and some money in a trading account, you can live almost anywhere cheaper and more peacefully than California. I still like LA, but still hate SF for more reasons than one. San Francisco gave me the creeps. Flush it.
BTW, Brendan Nelson is now DEFENCE Minister. He can help them CLEAR OFF!!!!

Because that headline wouldn't make people offended. Then again, I see "must speak English", as perfectly reasonable. I mean, the Greeks, the Italians, most Africans, the Chinese.. everyone else speaks English, and has Australian values, why not the Muslims?
I find it hilarious, that, in the 70s, when we told the various Europeans and Asians to speak English and adopt Australian values, they shrugged and did so, and no-one started whining. Why does the media do it for the Muslims now? Hell, the media and the Muslims love each other, and hate the government - Why not just pack them all in a boat, and send them off to their paradise, Iran?

Actually he did - back in June. I recall hearing this speech and googled it. Granted its a speech so it lacks the cowboy attitude of "learn english or git out". Here's part of it.
"The middle ground recognizes there are differences between an illegal immigrant who crossed the border recently, and someone who has worked here for many years who's got a home, a family, and a clean record.
My position is clear: I believe that illegal immigrants who have roots in our country and who want to stay should have to pay a meaningful penalty for breaking the law, to pay their taxes, to learn English, and to work in a job for a number of years. People who meet these conditions should be eventually permitted to apply for citizenship like other foreign workers. But approval would not be automatic. They would have to wait in line behind those who played by the rules and followed the law. This isn't amnesty. It is a practical and reasonable way for those who have broken the law to pay their debt to society and demonstrate the character that makes a good citizen.

There is one obvious solution: "Be fruitful and multiply." Make kids. Lots of 'em. Procreation is fun!
A couple with only one kid is a nett-loss on the population. Two kids is a wash. Three kids plus are the bare minimum for turning this situation around (and, granted, some of these three-plus kids will grow up gay or sterile or not having children themselves, for whatever reason). So, on the safe side, four-plus kids per couple will start to turn the tide.
