WASHINGTON -- Fear of another terrorist attack remains real for many Americans. For people who lived in the two cities struck by the terrorists on Sept. 11, 2001 -- New York and Washington -- the fears are intensely personal and vivid.
They're nervous about public transportation, take note of suspicious people and think back often to the horrors of Sept. 11, an AP-Ipsos poll found. Well over half of New Yorkers and Washingtonians are worried their communities will be attacked again. Nationwide, a third worry they will be attacked.
Five years after the attacks, the terrorist threat is still evolving. Britain's foiling of what authorities called a multiple hijacking plot in early August was a stark reminder. Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, who claims to have ordered the Sept. 11 attacks, remains free, probably in the mountains near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. And the only person convicted in the U.S. for the Sept. 11 massacre is Zacarias Moussaoui, a Frenchman who was in jail when it happened.

The new polls seem to indicate that. I think the Dems are underestimating that fear.
Nice of the AP to remind everybody what we face and what we would face if the white flag crowd gets control.
May be time for the GOP to have another surrender vote in the house, if they could get one in between vacations, campaigning and being influenced by lobbyists.
"They're nervous about public transportation, take note of suspicious people..."
Pity, that our "security forces" would not pay more attention to suspicious people, instead of worrying about offending someone.
I dont think there is any doubt that the Islamo-fascists will hit us again eventually.
Most Americans are concerned. Concern is a lot different from fear. I dont see many Americans shaking in their boots in fear, I see concern.
Right. We know dang well that we will be hit again. After all they have been mowing us down with cars.
Don't underestimate how many surrender monkeys we have in this country now. Thanks to the lies of Academia and the MSM, too many believe that appeasement is the way to go.
Republicans are probably going to lose control of the House and Senate, and maybe they deserve to. We haven't exactly done a bang up job on the immigration issue, and we continue to fight a PC war over in the middle east.
Maybe the Dems should be in control for a while....
...35 percent nationally were worried they'd be victims of terrorism, a number that spiked to 43 after the alleged terrorist plot in Britain was announced.
I hope they attack me. I'm waiting for them.
Truthfully, if I lived in DC or NYC, I would have a lot more personal and vivid fear of attacks as well. While I do fear that more attacks are planned, at least I live in the middle of nowhere. That is some personal comfort.
Notice the spin of the article emphasizing bin Laden at large and few arrests over 9/11. I think their implication was that there has been no progress. BS. The press chooses to measure success by criteria that are conveniently visible. Therefore, they ignore Iraq and the disruptive successes.
Iraq is about transforming the Middle East, about ending infinite tolerance for axis of evil states, especially with regard to WMDs and sponsoring terror, about projecting power in that region, about luring the activity of the worst terrorists and whoever they can recruit into a kill zone.
Iraq aside, the success foiling plots has to do with disrupting them in formation, not in the last part of the defense, and not even in the prosecution of the past terrorists.
Because they focus only on the conveniently visible, the authors of the piece probably can't see why the New York Times exposure of surveillance programs was so utterly stupid.
Buy stock in ammunition if they hit us hard here , they WILL be hit back.
Ah. A read before you post moment for me.
