Unless you're starting with bare circuit board, RadioShack has nothing towards that end.

The customer version: "You've got questions, we only want your zip code."

19255 - Philadelphia zip code for regional IRS office. Always a fun one to give. ;-)

Last week I read a story that folks at Delta who were being fired got a set of saving money tips. It included s suggestion to enjoy dumpster diving.

The best one to give them is the one for the home address for whoever happened to be the Tandy CEO at the moment. :)

I've always disliked Radio Shack's "interrogation" every time I tried to pay for something in their store.

Just say "NO"

I worked for a man for several years who fired people by telegram. He was a really nice guy. I believe he was too soft to fire anyone face to face. He would take a trip to another office and send a telegram. Got to be a joke around the office when he took a trip.

Radio Shack is like a time warp - set foot in there and you get stuff that's been useless for decades!

But it does have some good stuff, I admit!

Radio Shack ought to be at the forefront of any "build your own computer" interests. I emailed them as such, and they seemed disinterested. (Of course it's all about ME.)

They should have been, but they're not. Nowadays their main focus seems to be going after Verizon and the gazillion Verizon Stores.

"Having worked at RadioShack, I can't say I'm really surprised."

I don't know why they are even still in business. From what I've seen all they sell is over priced junk, and have a terrible inventory.

The last time I set foot in a RS store was about 3 or 4 years ago, looking for a CPU fan for replacing the one that had died on me. They had none on stock, so they ripped one right out of a computer that was being used as a doorstop. To this day, it still works (and that computer is on 24/7).

I knew someone that used to send singing telegrams to the terminee's home.

He stopped doing that when people started listing mailing addresses instead of home addresses, and when mailbox places became common.

Darn, if only I hadn't refused to give my phone number when buying batteries. Must have thrown their whole corporate organization out of whack.

Oh absolutely!

:)

My father is probably a bigger customer with this RS, as my father is more into the electronics, soldering, building small useful kits, etc., than I am. Stuff like various gauge wires, capacitors, resisters, LED's, thermistors, circuit boards, etc., are about all my father ever buys at this RS.

Who buys those toys they stock? Most 21st Century kids would take one look at them and chuck them out a window.

LOL I dunno. It's like you say, you take one step inside RS and you feel like you've stepped into a wormhole that took you back 15-20 years. LOL

Yes, the doors to RS shops are geunine time portals. 2 decades at least! Haha!

As I understand it, this kind of thing would not have happened with John Roach at the helm. He was a class act.

Any PC folks out there remember the Tandy CoCo? The TRS-80 I think. The wizards at RS gave us that one!
