FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE August 30, 2006
CONTACT: Brendan Daly 202-226-7616 Pelosi Statement on Rumsfeld Remarks
Washington, D.C. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in response to Secretary Rumsfelds remarks he made yesterday to the American Legion convention in Salt Lake City:
"Secretary Rumsfeld's efforts to smear critics of the Bush Administration's Iraq policy are a pathetic attempt to shift the public's attention from his repeated failure to manage the conduct of the war competently. If Mr. Rumsfeld is so concerned with comparisons to World War II, he should explain why our troops have now been fighting in Iraq longer than it took our forces to defeat the Nazis in Europe.
"The policies that led to the horrors at Abu Ghraib were developed on Mr. Rumsfeld's watch. For him to now lecture on moral clarity is a fresh embarrassment to the nation. His comments offer additional evidence that the end of his tenure as Secretary of Defense can not come soon enough."

I've heard this comparison to the length of time we fought in World War 2 before. This must be on their talking point list of why Iraq is a failure, i.e. it's taking longer than World War 2.

The policies that led to the horrors at Abu GhraibHorrors, are they now?
Simply PATHETIC

I take perverse pleasure in reminding such like minded liberal loonies that we are STILL occupying Germany, post WW2.

I suspect Nancy "Picking out the new curtains" Pelosi will eat her words come election time--and I'm also pretty sure Rummy will get right on that apology to the Demmies/Libbies! Not. ;-)

Of course in WWII we were allowed to carpet bomb and nuke the enemy.
Might have something to do with it...

The only national embarrassment is Ms. Pelosi and her party, and neither is smelling very fresh these days.

Excellent point. Not to mention that the enemy in WWII wore uniforms and marched around announcing themselves.

correct me if I am wrong, but we had massive numbers of troops in Europe for some time after the conflict was over, and there was plenty of violence in the aftermath. Iraq was defeated in days, as opposed to Hitler's defeat which took years. If we compare apples to apples, we are in the post-war phase in Iraq now.
