I've heard this comparison to the length of time we fought in World War 2 before. This must be on their talking point list of why Iraq is a failure, i.e. it's taking longer than World War 2.

"The policies that led to the horrors at Abu Ghraib were developed on Mr. Rumsfeld's watch..."

Nancy's just afraid we'll discover they "tortured" prisoners using her panties.

Yeah, she is without wit, and lacks any perspective on military matters.

correct me if I am wrong, but we had massive numbers of troops in Europe for some time after the conflict was over, and there was plenty of violence in the aftermath. Iraq was defeated in days, as opposed to Hitler's defeat which took years. If we compare apples to apples, we are in the post-war phase in Iraq now.

The horrors of Abu Gharib? My word, I did tougher things in fraternity activities.

How about the horrors of Saddam Hussein? Would Mrs. Pelosi like to put him back in power?

Something is wrong with their analogy.

Let's compare the Iraq War with how long the rest of Europe was involved in WWII, as opposed to just America. Started in 1939, Germany surrendered in 1945, I get 6 years, right? OK then, the Iraq War began in 2003, it's now 2006, so about 3.5 years.

Hmmm, why wouldn't they use that comparison? It fits more with the Iraq War. WWII in Europe was being fought long before we became involved.

If Mr. Rumsfeld is so concerned with comparisons to World War II, he should explain why our troops have now been fighting in Iraq longer than it took our forces to defeat the Nazis in Europe.

Gee, Pelosi, it could have something to do with the fact that Roosevelt didn't have to contend with the likes of you undermining his war effort. And our enemies in Iraq are COUNTING on the likes of you to give them the political victory they cannot win on the battlefield, just like Vietnam.

So if you want to see why this war is taking so long, go take a good, long gaze in the mirror at your Botox-saturated mug.

The US was not the first nation to engage the Nazis in battle. In fact Communists in the United States urged "peace" in dealing with Nazi Germany (that is, until Hitler double crossed Unca Joe Stalin).

Note too how she shifted the traditional talking point of how long it took to win WWII. We ended WWII with nuclear weapons but they are "off the table" today.

Why did we go to war against Germany when it was Japan that bombed Pearl Harbor? < /sarc >

Simply incredible. Which one of these statements of Secretary Rumsfeld is she referring to:

-- Our nation is so fortunate to have the American Legion standing up for all those who are serving our country in this time of testing.

-- The Department of Defense is proud to be a partner with you in the "Heroes to Hometowns" program, which is helping severely wounded veterans with job searches, their homes, and other activities to aid the transition to civilian life. Your partnership with the "The America Supports You" campaign helps communities, organizations, and individuals across this nation express their appreciation to our troops, and to their families.

-- I commend the American Legion for its sponsorship of the Boy Scouts. I know there are some places where Boy Scouts are a subject of scorn.

-- Today, another enemy -- a different kind of enemy -- has also made clear its intentions -- in places like New York, Washington, D.C., Bali, London, Madrid, and Moscow. But it is apparent that many have still not learned history's lessons.

--We hear everyday of new plans, new efforts, to murder Americans and other free people. Indeed, the plot recently discovered that would have killed hundreds -- possibly thousands -- of innocent men, women, and children on planes coming from Britain to the United States should have demonstrated to all that the enemy is serious, lethal, and relentless.

But this is still -- in 2006 -- not well recognized or fully understood. It seems that in some quarters there is more of a focus on dividing our country, than acting with unity against the gathering threats.

-- The struggle we are in is too important -- the consequences too severe -- to have the luxury of returning to the old mentality of "Blame America First."

-- I believe the question is not whether we can win. It is whether we have the will to persevere.

-- I believe the question is not whether we can win. It is whether we have the will to persevere.

Or, maybe, it was just this:

-- May God bless each of you. May God bless the men and women in uniform and their families. And may God continue to bless our wonderful country.

"The policies that led to the horrors at Abu Ghraib were developed on Mr. Rumsfeld's watch."

What horrors? People getting kidnapped, forced to convert their religion at gunpoint, decapitated? Hands lopped off? Rape rooms? Disembowling of prisoners' wives before their eyes? Suicide bombers boarding a bus?

Oh. Korans in toilets and panties on heads.

Here's the speech. Pelosi (and Reid) must be feeling guilty, or they wouldn't react so strongly to a speach which does not mention them or the Democratic party by name.

Here's a quote. " The question is not whether we can win; it's whether we have the will to persevere to win. I'm convinced that Americans do have that determination and that we have learned the lessons of history, of the folly of trying to turn a blind eye to danger."

Got news for Pelosi. WWII didn't end until 1989, when the eastern European nations conquered and illegally occupied by the USSR were finally liberated to determine their own fate and government. By that measure, we've still got at least another 40 years to go in WWIV.
