students today have less respect for authority than they did when many teachers were in school

So allowing them to continue to disrespect teachers autority will make a difference how?

When a student is visibly agitated, the teacher might not want to push any buttons by asking if he or she brought in homework that day.

Why bother making them do work then, we already pass them through without really educating them.

The squishier the authority, the less respect they’ll get.

Exactly! When I spent my year in hell, i.e., teaching in a public high school, I was told, "You can't expect these students to have your middle class values."

My answer was, "How elitist is that?"

Yeah, but let the student say something good about Bush or the War on Terror and they'll be whisked away to the principal's office faster than you can say "tenure"!

But its verboten to pray to God. That will bring the ACLU down to your school in a New York minute. Swearing? That's free speech!

If you are white we expect you to not curse and not cause any trouble. If you do, you get in trouble

If you are anything else you will not get in trouble, because we expect you to act like animals.

DOES ANYONE ELSE SEE HOW RACIST THESE LIBERALS ARE!?

Bingo! See my #23.

students today have less respect for authority than they did when many teachers were in school and consequently, some teachers have unrealistic expectations of their students.

In other words, students don't respect you so you must accept their bad behavior. With geniuses like this making policies, it is little wonder that kids have less respect for authority.

Be sensitive. Don't "push buttons" by expecting them to follow instructions or comply with requirements.

Good One ..I've yelled like that a few times at classes myself . I had a student curse me in class once. I threw him out so fast he didnt know what happened . Later on I met him one on one and told him in no uncertain terms where it was at with me. He was scared but also respected that I wouldnt take his gangsta crap for a second. Wound up being a nice kid to me and I was the only teacher who didnt have any trouble with him after that .
