Democratic 'lock'? ..(party leaders forming a 'circular firing squad')
Washington Times ^ | August 29, 2006 | Greg Pierce

Posted on 08/29/2006 7:40:50 AM PDT by IrishMike

Democratic 'lock'? "Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Chairman Charles B. Rangel and Chairman -- again -- John D. Dingell. Those titles will soon sound familiar," Bloomberg columnist Albert R. Hunt declared yesterday. "Barring an unexpected and big event, Democrats will win control of the U.S. House of Representatives in November and conceivably the Senate, too. Whether it's a tsunami or just a powerful wave, the political dynamics are moving in that direction, or more accurately, against the Republicans and President George W. Bush," Mr. Hunt said. "Democratic insiders, who months ago thought their chances of winning a majority in the House were no better than even, and that the Senate was a lost cause, have become far more optimistic. Now, they say, winning the House is a lock, and the Senate is within reach. "'We have to go back to 1974 [during Watergate] to find such a favorable environment,' says James Carville, who ran Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign. 'If we can't win in this environment, we have to question the whole premise of the party.'" However, syndicated columnist Michael Barone writes that the recent arrest of British Muslims suspected of plotting to destroy American airliners over the Atlantic Ocean appears to have changed the dynamic of the elections. It is credited with boosting Mr. Bush's approval ratings and bringing Republicans to near parity in the latest "generic" polls, in which respondents are asked whether they would prefer to be represented by a Democrat or a Republican. "Earlier this summer, I thought that voters had decided that the Republicans deserved to lose but were not sure that the Democrats deserved to win, .... A change in the winds."

I don't look at it so much as a circular firing squad, but a typical Democrat circular jerk.

The only way republicans lose this november is if they do not show up to vote. I really doubt that will happen.

Is this the same James Carville who put a trash can on his head after the last election because he blew his prediction so badly?

Is this the same Al Hunt of "there is no semen stained dress" fame. Or when he wrote after the primaries in 1994, that the Republicans were in for a rout because they had nominated such extremists?

If it is the same Al Hunt, he is clueless.

This whole "Democrats will WIN!" thing has always been hilariously transparent. The same technique was employed in the 2003 off-year election: The MSM writes and broadcasts stories about how "polls" say the GOP is "vulnerable" to the coming Democrat groundswell, then other stories are written and broadcast based on the earlier stories, all in an effort to get the sheeple to think, "Wow! The Democrats are coming on strong! I'd better vote Democrat!"

This pandering, wishful-thinking-as-reporting garbage didn't work then, and it won't work now.

Somehow, I don't see this happening, even if they DO get their political heads handed to them. They're so...so, right, don't you know. It can't be that the ordinary voter doesn't agree, just that they can't get their message out, that Karl Rove is suppressing common sense, that the Devil is making us all do it just to spite them.

The only thing that is going to heal the current Democratic leadership is that they pass away.

I was looking for a post I had a while back about a shotgun used by the military called a 'street sweeper'
(love the name), fires about 300 rounds of 12#gage per minute.

The "sit at home and send a message types" used to be all over FreeRepublic. Now it's grown quiet, perhaps because the Senate bill on immigration is dead.

Al Hunt is not clueless.

He is viciously biased, and he wants his ideological and cocktail party friends back in power.

The goal of all of these MSM stories is to create an air of inevitability of Democratic victories.

And not one of these liberal pundits will be held accountable for the lies and nonsense they peddle. Ever.

The "sit at home and send a message types" used to be all over FreeRepublic.

I think a lot of them were infiltrators fanning the flames and looking to divide conservatives. It became pretty obvious after awhile. My guess is it's long been understood by the Democrats that they can win only if they drive a wedge between Republicans, and that's been their strategy for a long while, on this board and on other forums.

I'd gladly donate 500 rounds of 5.56 to this firing squad.

Even if they line up a circular firing squad, no one will get hurt. Democrats don't believe in guns. If they showed up with weapons, there would be no bullets as there intentions on any issue are hollow.

I fear that republicans may not show up in the necessary numbers to vote.

We'll see.
