**Now one of the best things I was ever told was "Let yourself feel the feelings." We try to not have those bad feelings, but it is part of life, if you just accept the pain, it will abate eventually.**

And I have heard it said that "Feelings are neither right nor wrong." It's what we do with the feelings that can be right or wrong.

Such as drifting into anger or depression.

That's true. It's what we do about them, but some are buried so deep we aren't aware they are evem there until or unless we get a flash of insight. Such as drifting into anger or depression.

There are many different causes of depression. I'm no expert, but I'm convinced there is a genetic component as there also is with alcoholism. We can choose what to do with it to a great extent, better early on than later, but the worst thing to do is deny it.

Denying feelings is very unhealthy imo. I resent it when people blame me for my depression and criticize me for taking meds for it. I can control it to some extent, choose what I do or don't do about it, but some of it is beyond my power to control. You learn to ride it out, try to keep busy with healthy pursuits, until the sun comes out again. Sometimes it takes a long time and a lot of hard work.

Pretending you are not angry or depressed doesn't work.
