Sweet smokin' Jesus some people love their Bible! Seventy-five percent?! Then you look at Vermont and you think to yourself: what in God's green earth do have in common with those fruities up in New England? Dennis Prager's theory is that a conservative is someone who believes that the Bible is of divine origin while a liberal believes, well, that basically the Bible is a whole lot of things but it's all got nothin' to do with God (or is it god?).

Based on how folks live their lives, I SERIOUSLY doubt anywhere near 50% of americans believe the Bible is literally true.

79% of women and 69% of men identify themselves as true believers [in Arkansas]. Interesting. I wonder what the national figures (for men/women) are?

I know that women beat men by about 10 percentage points on overall church attendance. There is actually a book written about this. Apparently, church services are catered to women so men just don't show up. That doesn't make much sense to me.

I don't think you have to go to church to believe the Bible is the word of God.

Your right. I'm talking about believing that the Bible is God's word. Not literal word, necessariy, but His word nonetheless. I think the good people of the South are fine folks and have a great moral code, but theologically I could never roll like that.

No one I know believe the Bible is literally true like the libs like to cry about. I think any evil fundamentalist knows what a parable is.

To a progressive socialist(liberal doesn't do them justice), ALL pages of the Bible are BLANK.You are too nice to them. To them, all pages of the Bible are poison, as they give false consciousness and perpetuate the oppressions of women, minorities, and non-believers.

Well Dennis is ignorant, at least on this topic. A quick spin through the evolution threads will make it abundantly clear that there are many conservatives who do not take the Bible as being literally true and there are even some of us who view it as little more than an influential and interesting piece of history.
