Biden not worried about Southern Dems

Sen. Joseph Biden (news, bio, voting record) says he can hold his own in a 2008 presidential primary against Democratic contenders from the South, noting that his home state of Delaware was a "slave state."

Biden dismissed the notion that he was a "Northeastern liberal" who would have a poor showing in the South against other likely contenders such as Virginia Gov. Mark Warner and former Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina, the 2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee.

"Better than anybody else," Biden said, when asked on "Fox News Sunday" to rate his chances of winning Southern states.

"You don't know my state," he said. "My state was a slave state. My state is a border state. My state has the eighth-largest black population in the country. My state is anything from a Northeast liberal state."

I respect Trent Lott for all that he's done for my state, and I have forgiven him,but I will never forget that he caved to the drive-by media and the hypocritical Rats when he resigned as Majority Leader over a totally innocuous remark, when the Rats have had Robert Sheets Byrd sitting in the Senate on the Rat side of the aisle for decades.

Reading this sort of post makes me very sad that my proposed constitutional amendment is getting very little traction.

I have always been a bit miffed that Delaware, a tiny state which consists of a NASCAR venue, the Hotel Dupont, and a none-too-attractive beach, has two Senators. I feel the same about Rhode Island, and they don't even have a dragstrip or a decent hotel. I propose that both of these states share 1 Senator, selected by myself. Now on the face of it, this may seem a trifle authoritarian, or even "unfair."

But let's give it a try. After all, I could hardly do worse than the 4 Clymers these benighted "tiny-state" people continually come up with. Biden, in particular, became Senator on the strenght of the Biden family vote, living and dead, and on the strength of a few stirring speeches a pal of his got from the Manchester Guardian after they had been delivered to Labour Party Conventions in England. He had to run to get medical coverage for a brain tumor and a hair transplant. (NOT MEDICALLY RELATED.)

Had anyone in Delaware been able to read the news, his election might have been more challenging. Hell, I am pleasantly surprised they finally heard they're not a slave state any more.

Ticked me off to no end, although most of my anger was reserved for the GOP bigwigs who undoubtedly applied a Hell of a lot of pressure to him to do exactly that.

See my tagline.

On the other hand, their representation in the House is meaningless.

As the NE bleeds population to the red states, it is a balancing factor.

Our forefathers were truly geniuses. - Look at what is happening in the electoral college vis a vie NY, Pa, and Florida.

Since Joe is among the poorest,if not the poorest,of Democratic senators, isn't there something about old timers keeping "leftover"campaign contributions?
He knows that he could never win anywhere other than Delaware.
If Delaware was a slave state, why did the Delaware units, including my great-grandfather's,fight for the Union?

Follow the money!

Delaware is much more Northeastern than Southern today, so I don't understand his logic. I consider it a Northeast state.

That's true. But everytime I think about it,I wish I could hold the lever of history just for a minute and make him go take it back. Of course,if I could have meomentary power over the lever of history, there's probably a couple of bigger things I'd bother with :)

This is the the stupidest thing I've ever heard. He's trying to show he's "in touch" with southern voters by comparing them to, or outright calling them, slaveowners because HIS state was once a slave state? That's just. . .offensive.

"Dat's FRIZZELL and it's my slave name cracker boy! I've thrown off the shackles of the white man's oppression, shed my street ways, and am proud to claim my African name. I am Kweisi Mfume sucka!"

In this picture Mr. Mfume holds up 4 fingers when asked to guess how many illegitimate children he has fathered. The correct answer is 5 Frizzell, you Moron.
