STATEMENT OF CLARIFICATION
TAMPA--In a recent article published in the Florida Baptist Witness, Congresswoman Katherine Harris was asked to comment on the interplay of faith and politics in the public square. In the interview, Harris was speaking to a Christian audience, addressing a common misperception that people of faith should not be actively involved in government. Addressing this Christian publication, Harris provided a statement that explains her deep grounding in Judeo-Christian values.
Bryan Rudnick, Harris for Senate Campaign Manager stated, "I joined this campaign because Congresswoman Harris is a passionate supporter of Israel, the Jewish people and always has the best interests of all Floridians at heart. As the grandson of Holocaust survivors, I know that she encourages people of all faiths to engage in government so that our country can continue to thrive on the principles set forth by our Founding Fathers, without malice towards anyone."
In Congress, Katherine Harris has consistently supported pro-Israel legislation. Representative Harris co-sponsored numerous resolutions including: H. Con. Res. 248, to honor the life and work of Simon Wiesenthal and to reaffirm Congress' commitment to the fight against anti-Semitism and all forms of intolerance; H.Con.Res. 392, to recognize the 58th anniversary of the independence of the State of Israel; H.Con.Res. 101, to push for the European Union to add Hezbollah to its list of terrorist organizations; and H.Res. 575, to stress that Hamas and other terrorist organizations should not take part in elections held by the Palestinian Authority.
As a Florida State Senator, Katherine Harris co-sponsored S. 3062, the Holocaust and Yom Hashoah Victims Resolution, encouraging observation of the day to remember the horrific tragedy of the Holocaust. While serving as Secretary of State, Congresswoman Harris advocated for funding for the Florida - Israel Linkage Institute to promote business/ cultural/educational/technological exchanges, and she traveled to Israel for personal and professional purposes. As Harris frequently reminds voters in her campaign speeches for the U.S. Senate, she is committed to standing by Israel.

Yes she did. Did you read the her statements in the interview?
"If you are not electing Christians, tried and true, under public scrutiny and pressure, if youre not electing Christians then in essence you are going to legislate sin. They can legislate sin."

It's not a good retraction - she needed to address more specifically her comment, If you're not electing Christians, then in essence you are going to legislate sin..."

Who cares what she thinks about which religions should hold office, if that's even what she meant. She can't control who people vote for, so it doesn't matter.
We shouldn't care that she has ignorant bigoted beliefs about who holds office because she can't implement those beliefs? Wow...

She's probably right.
That voting for any non-Christian politician is "legislating sin?" Geez, I would have thought we were smarter than that here...
To: Stone Mountain
Wow what? What can she do about getting somebody else elected? She doesn't have the money or authority to accomplish that. Now, Hillary is a different story, but that's because of her corruptions and connections made through her reign in the WH, not the Senate.
I don't think that a Christian who wants to see other Christians elected is an ignorant bigot. Atheists want atheists elected, Mooselims want Mooselims elected, blacks hustle endlessly to get blacks elected and so do Hispanics. Why should Katherine be considered a bigot when none of these other groups are? Ah! Because she is a Christian! Perhaps YOU are the bigot?

It doesn't matter what she can do about getting someone elected. It's about whether a candidate with the views she espoused deserves our votes.

That's all fine. It's when she says that voting anyone other than a Christian is equivalent to "legislating sin" that she falls into the ignorant bigot category. I would say the same about any of those other groups you mentioned if they said that others not of their belief system or race would be "legislating sin" by not voting for people of their religion or race.

Out of curiosity, can anyone think of a pro life Jewish member of Congress?
Norm Coleman - (R) senator from Minnesota
Eric Cantor - (R) House from Virginia
Ileana Ros-Lehtinen - (R) House from Florida
To: Stone Mountain
Thanks. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen - there's something that I never contemplated, a Cuban Jew. Oh well, why not?
To: Stone Mountain
Another big difference is that it's only Republicans who eat their own.

Not sure what this has to do with my comment, but perhaps the reason for the above is that it's Republicans who have a more highly developed sense of ethics and won't blindly vote for someone just because they happen to be a Republican. The curse of higher standards.

So I assume your family is going to vote for Nelson...If they cannot vote in the primary then they vote in the general and they are not going to vote for Katherine....Must be democrats and they never had her vote anyway..

Ohio has enough problems electing Republicans other than RINO's..How about letting us elect conservatives down here when we have the opportunity....

Well, then, if you find Katherine's remark so off-putting to your highly developed ethical standards, you should probably vote for the Democrat. That should satisfy your standards, right?

I wasn't aware that the Democrat had such highly developed ethical standards. Thanks for the information.
To: Stone Mountain
I wasn't aware of them, either. But you clearly have nowhere else to turn, given the heinous violation of your ethical standards perpetrated by Katherine Harris.
