STATEMENT OF CLARIFICATION
TAMPA--In a recent article published in the Florida Baptist Witness, Congresswoman Katherine Harris was asked to comment on the interplay of faith and politics in the public square. In the interview, Harris was speaking to a Christian audience, addressing a common misperception that people of faith should not be actively involved in government. Addressing this Christian publication, Harris provided a statement that explains her deep grounding in Judeo-Christian values.
Bryan Rudnick, Harris for Senate Campaign Manager stated, "I joined this campaign because Congresswoman Harris is a passionate supporter of Israel, the Jewish people and always has the best interests of all Floridians at heart. As the grandson of Holocaust survivors, I know that she encourages people of all faiths to engage in government so that our country can continue to thrive on the principles set forth by our Founding Fathers, without malice towards anyone."
In Congress, Katherine Harris has consistently supported pro-Israel legislation. Representative Harris co-sponsored numerous resolutions including: H. Con. Res. 248, to honor the life and work of Simon Wiesenthal and to reaffirm Congress' commitment to the fight against anti-Semitism and all forms of intolerance; H.Con.Res. 392, to recognize the 58th anniversary of the independence of the State of Israel; H.Con.Res. 101, to push for the European Union to add Hezbollah to its list of terrorist organizations; and H.Res. 575, to stress that Hamas and other terrorist organizations should not take part in elections held by the Palestinian Authority.
As a Florida State Senator, Katherine Harris co-sponsored S. 3062, the Holocaust and Yom Hashoah Victims Resolution, encouraging observation of the day to remember the horrific tragedy of the Holocaust. While serving as Secretary of State, Congresswoman Harris advocated for funding for the Florida - Israel Linkage Institute to promote business/ cultural/educational/technological exchanges, and she traveled to Israel for personal and professional purposes. As Harris frequently reminds voters in her campaign speeches for the U.S. Senate, she is committed to standing by Israel.
Ping.
She never said 'only Christians should be in office'.
FYI....her campaign manager is Jewish!
See Kathy. See Kathy backtrack. Backtrack, Kathy, backtrack!
If you don't think that people who are not from Florida should post on these threads, why don't you just post in the Florida section?
Thanks for your support of Katherine harris!
What she said wis that it was morally wrong not to vote for a Christian.
Where did she blame her audience?
I believe you are right. In our attempts to "undo" perceived wrongs, we frequently give more fuel to the fire for those waiting to misinterpret. KH is courageous and determined and should continue to move forward.
Religion has always been a "hot" topic here, along with illegals, the GOP, rinos, crevo, and others. oh and did I mention illegals?
From some of the postings Ive seen, Ive concluded there is a lot of anti-Christian bigotry from the atheist right on FreeRepublic. And if you dont think these people are fundies just question evolution and youll soon know.
Those quotes sound Deist to me, not Christian.
Why does the title not match the body?
Thank you. I was afraid that I was sounding muddled. She is very brave and has had to contend with harsh critics her whole career....especiallly since 2000.
Rove et al support Specter because Specter wins. If they thought Harris could win, they'd support her. Not saying it's right, just that it's so.
FYI....her campaign manager is Jewish!
Paid staff are excluded from our pool. Her photo op must be with a Jewish person whom is not in her employ.
She said that only Christians should be elected, and she didn't take it back.
Thanks Claire......BUMP

"No, they were not taking way out of context. She should stop making excuses for her own gaffes and foibles by blaming everyone else for them, and quit being a horses ass at every turn and drop out for the good of the party, and endorse a more viable candidate. It's her fault most of her campaign staff left her in droves."
It's time for Jeb to step in and replace her as the candidate for the good of the party. If the Democrats get 51 votes in the Senate, there will be impeachment hearings for his brother! Jeb could beat Bill Nelson in a landslide, even at this late point in the race.
