Oh my goodness. This is just the most poignant, heartfelt crock of bull I've ever seen. This, is more appropriate:

As so often happens in lines of poetry that sweep across time, Swift’s words may apply to MURTHA as much as they did to Marlborough:

“True to his profit and his pride,

“He made them weep before he died.”

From the editorial you mention in today's the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat [LINK]...."Unnecessary deaths vexed Jonathan Swift centuries ago; they bother John Murtha today."

If unnecessary deaths vex John Murtha so much, why was he behind the premature deployment to Iraq of the Stryker transport vehicle in 2003? Against strong objection, the Stryker was rushed to Iraq in 2003 -- waaaay before field testing of it was complete here stateside. The result? UNNECESSARY DEATHS of soldiers -- 3 related to seat belt issues upon rollover of the Styker. Others from shields promising to protect from rockets that did not perform as promised. All things that would have been discovered here stateside if fieldtests had been allowed to be completed.

Seated as ranking member of the Appropriations Defense subcommittee, Murtha pushed this vehicle through and in the process its cost of production has skyrocketed off the charts. All to get its numerous, deadly gliches fixed. All to make Murtha look good to his defense contractor buddies (the ones who brought $20 million into Murtha's brother's lobbying firm in 2004 alone)..... what about those 'vexing unnecessary deaths?" Did Murtha consider these deaths necessary ?...

Murtha is the top recipient of 'defense' contributions. Imagine that! Guess those deaths were necessary after all. /sarcasm.

Murtha's talk does not line up with his actions and the consequences of his actions. This editorial today is typical of those who have not looked at the facts about Murtha. Facts the media has ignored and covered up for years and years.

Anyone wishing to see if what I am writing of is correct, do a simple word search for "Stryker" in wikipedia online. There you will find tons of links to DoD leaked documents, an actual 120+-page PDF document from the Army detailing the Styker's 'field testing' in the desert, during the first year of the Iraq War with our soldiers onboard. It tells of all the efforts our soldiers took to fix for themselves the numerous deadly defects.

For this alone, John Murtha should be run out of office on a rail.

Murtha vexed about unnecessary deaths? That's a joke.

Thanks for the link to that article. What sophistry! What complete cr*p! I slogged through all the pseudo-intellectual references to Jonathan Swift, the Duke of Marlborough, Presidents Kennedy and Eisenhower, and finally got to this:

"What I heard Murtha say is a call to his president as commander in chief to present a clear statement of objectives for military involvement in Iraq and a realistic timetable for accomplishment of the objectives, which would lead to the end of the necessity for military presence."

Well, that's not what I heard Murtha say when he demanded immediate "redeployment" to Okinawa, whence, on his planet, we could rapidly "redeploy" again to Iraq. I heard him say "let's cut and run, and let's do it NOW!" And I don't need any quotes from Jonathan Swift to help me prove it, either.
