The other threads did not claim this was a long range missile.

How long is long range? I do not believe it was a ballistic missile...and I would be surprised if it were more than 150 miles.

I wonder how long it will be before Israel or the US takes out that plant? Now, more than ever, they've got to act.

How can nations not be very allarmed by this, if true. But then, maybe the system is solely meant for fishing... .

Now I am getting an idea of what it must have felt like in the time immediately preceeding WW II.

Range on an SS-N-5 is only around 700 nm. I would not classify this as "long range". The Trident I C-4 missiles on an Ohio class SSBN are in excess of 4000nm and the Trident II D-5 are 50% greater than that.

Follow the money and technology trail.

Clinton, China and Tehran...

And, eight years of the Clinton's in office to build-up their arsenal.

This is clear warning that it`s past time to stop playing politics in the war on terrorism. Don`t be fooled, it started in Iran and that`s where it will end.

Iran test fires long-range missile
POSTED: 1633 GMT (0033 HKT), August 27, 2006
Adjust font size:
TEHRAN, Iran (Reuters) -- Iran test fired a long-range, radar-evading missile on Sunday from a submarine in the Gulf as part of war games that began earlier this month, state television reported.

The missile was called Sagheb, which means Piercing, but the report did not give the missile's range.

"Minutes ago it was launched from a submarine in the Persian Gulf and it hit the target," television reported.

Western nations have been watching developments in Iran's missile capabilities with concern amid a standoff over the country's nuclear program, which the West says is aimed at building atomic bombs. Iran says the program is only civilian.

Iran's military also held war games in the Gulf in April. Those exercises were interpreted by analysts as a thinly veiled threat that Iran could disrupt vital oil shipping lanes if pushed by an escalation in the nuclear dispute.

A navy admiral, named only as Kouchaki, told state television the missile had been designed and produced in Iran.

"It can be installed and launched by Iran's navy. It is a long-range missile, with a very high speed and destructive power. It is also radar evading," he said.

The Islamic Republic has three aging Kilo class diesel-electric Russian submarines and also builds midget submarines. The Sagheb is listed as an air defense missile by the Nuclear Threat Initiative Web site (www.nti.org).

Military analysts say Iran often exaggerates its abilities, They argue that its military equipment is outmoded and that new missiles Iran claims to have produced are often modified versions from other countries such as North Korea.

But they also say Iranian forces could, if pushed, cause havoc in shipping lanes in the Gulf, even if they would be no match in any conventional confrontation with the high-tech forces of the U.S. and other navies operating in the area.

I predict that all four of Iran's submarines will be Gulf bottom decorations within 15 minutes of any major conflict.

Once again we take in the shorts. America is going down. When a nation loses its will to defend itself with overwhelming military force, it goes down. Americans, you are leaving your children and grandchildren a hell of a world to live in, if they live. Liberals and Democrats don't care about children and grandchildren. They have none, selfish elite vermin and scum that they are!!! I'm disgusted!!! GW Bush just sits there and lets these animals ride all over him. And....the Democrat Party could care less, traitors that they all are.

Yeah, serving abord an Iranian submarine would not be the key to a long life.

Iran + sub with 500 NM mile missle = trouble for a lot of folks.

The story did not indicate the type and I do not know that the muzzies have any boomers, so a torpedo launched cruise or short range missile were my first thoughts.
