Possible plane crash in Lexington, KY. My brother works security for Lexington UK Hospital and was just called in. No news locally or on major news outlets yet. I didn't want to post anything for fear of being wrong, but he's still waiting for an official call while on stand-by.

Update from WTVQ 36 Lexington:

A plane has crashed near the Blue Grass Airport this morning. No word on details at this time. We are told it was a commercial aircraft. Versailles Road is blocked as emergency vehicles circle around the site. We have live coverage beginning at 7:20am. Stay with Action News 36 for more details.

The flight recorder will have the answers and the first officer, if he survives.

I wonder if you join me in hoping that God will mercifully take the FO, who even without probable burns and disfigurement will have a very rough time with the outcome of what might have been his own shortcomings?

I hope it was a issue of no-options-available, rather then having options and choosing wrong. This is the kind of thing I speak of regarding the training differences between military and civilian pilots.

Info in Post 14 says 8/26 is 75 feet wide; 4/22 at 150 feet in width.

Media gets it wrong again. Still twice as wide is big visual difference, even at 0'dark thirty.

... the engineers response was "Why would you ever want to get slow in a fighter?"

The standard answer to that question is even better.

"Chicks dig the suit."

Check Compass against assigned runway heading!

SOP and with 2 pilots and 2 separate compass systems for redundancy, augmented by ATC control via the tower, if it is true that the wrong runway was used, it shows the true backing of the NTSB mindset that "it's never just one mistake that creates an accident but a string of mistakes together".

I take that back, I just checked my friend's CRJ manual, and it does not have auto-brakes--thus no RTO auto-brake.

They do have misconfiguration warnings for take-off however it still requires pilot input to take action.

Sofia News Agency is reporting the sole survivor as being the pilot (currently in critical condition).

I pray that God takes him. He should not have to deal with life after this accident.

The president of Comair said in his news conference that the survivor is the copilot.

How would he ever recover? Could he?

8/26 being only 75 foot wide, at a fairly major facility such a LEX, would have gotten MY attention, as I looked over the edge of my 35' "hershey bar" wing on my PA28R.

I couldn't.

I don't know if anyone could. How do you live with yourself after your BASIC mistakes or neglect cause people to roast alive? No doubt he heard the screams.

Your Piper would require 10' width for a comfortable take off...

Well, I'm not going to watch coverage on Fox News anymore.

They had to go drag out a relative who proceeded to do the usual b*tch, moan, and whine about how they're being so mistreated by the airline.

What a strange thing to say. Think his wife or children or parents join in your prayer?

Its all just fodder for the personal injury lawyers, who will soon be landing in Kentucky and signing up family members at the airport. They will get them in front of psychologists and doctors who will provide (for pay) an exact measure of the level of grief that each person is feeling, then the lawyers will tie that to a specific dollar amount, then contact the airline for a quick settlement, of which they will take from a third to half of the money received, then fly home and turn on Sportscenter.
