Possible plane crash in Lexington, KY. My brother works security for Lexington UK Hospital and was just called in. No news locally or on major news outlets yet. I didn't want to post anything for fear of being wrong, but he's still waiting for an official call while on stand-by.

Update from WTVQ 36 Lexington:

A plane has crashed near the Blue Grass Airport this morning. No word on details at this time. We are told it was a commercial aircraft. Versailles Road is blocked as emergency vehicles circle around the site. We have live coverage beginning at 7:20am. Stay with Action News 36 for more details.

1 mile from the airport can't be all that wooded. The airport has Keeneland and Calumet Farms on one side and subdivisions and farms on others.

I'm a UK grad and granddaughter of a former air traffic controller at this airport. I have lots of family in the area and am anxious for all involved.

Lex18 reporting that the pilot took off on wrong runway, clipped trees and crashed at the fire training center.

Fire training center sits up on a slight rise near the airport.

Yes Versailles Road runs WNW across the top of the airport, just a few feet from the actual end of the runway. I guess planes taking off and landing across a highway is nothing unique, but it used to startle me how low they came across Versailles Road...

Hospital source states two people taken from the scene. One was the captain and the other was a passenger. Both are in very critical condition and both expected not to survive. Prayers again.

CNN is pronouncing the road as "Ver-sails". Ist that the way locals call it or is it "Ver-sigh"?

Wouldn't the tower alert the plane that they were on the wrong runway??? I guess with human error anything is possible, and I know accident's happen when planes sometimes taxi on wrong runways, or land on wrong runways. But I've never heard of a plane taking off on the wrong runway.

Likely weather conditions (rain) and environmental conditions (darkness) contributed, is the suspicion. Runway 26 is a closed runway, half the length of the main runway, unlit, with paving problems.

CNN is correct.

Ver-sigh? That must be the way those pansy frogs talk.

FWIW, from this link:

9.6 percent involved landing on the wrong runway or at the wrong airport.

That stat was from a year period, 1998 to 1999.
