What has this taught us about tolerance?
Islam has again said: "Convert or die".
The USA builds mosques for Islamic chaplins.
The fact that two people were kidnapped and held hostage seems to be getting overlooked. Isn't that still a crime? Of course it is. Therefore, why should anything resulting from the actions of these criminals be given any weight?
Are the lessons of this event any different than what we learned on 9/11 or 7/7 (and the list goes on)?

I did think of that too. Maybe as the days go by we will find out more details about all of this. I hope they both give an interview and and share what they were going through and what they were thinking during their whole ordeal.

They are simply reading (and quite badly too, on purpose, IMO) what has been put before them. They are definitely NOT speaking from their hearts!

My first reaction to the news this morning, aside from joy at them being freed, was not to judge them for the forced confession.
It was dismay. I truly hope that you are correct and that I am wrong.
I am not saying that I would have been strong enough in their situation to not do what they did (I pray that I would be) but the admonition from Scripture not to deny Christ is what came to my mind immediately. It would in that situation also.

I will not judge them based on this coersed statemnent, despite the overriding concerns and danger that their circumstance may generate...that's my only point.
Obviously, it isn't up to us to judge.
My only point is that a coersed confession is no confession to any rational mind,

It is also about the souls of these men and my original posts were geared towards those who would judge their potential eternal welfare based on these coersed statements. I simply will not do so.
Yes, ultimately Peter died...but all of us will die as well I do not believe Peter's eternal welfare is in question...at least not in my mind. His denial of Christ...which Christ knew he would do...led him to become a great champion for His Savior and the Church.
Now, I agree that the terorrists will be emboldened and attempt more. It is their desire to "convert" the world to Islam in such a manner...which means basically enbslave all to their ideology on pain of death. We must fight that to the death.

They did what they had to do to survive... but them converting to Islam under the barrel of a gun is kind of dissappointing. The Bible teaches us stand up to the false prophets and Gods... even under duress of death. It does not teach us to sacrifice our beliefs so that we may live another day, or lie about our convictions to stave off the blade. We have many wonderful examples in the Bible about this sort of thing.

Then, if we hear what He would have us do...do it! He will judge us accordingly IMHO...and we will know ourselves.
Certainly our disposition and inclination would be to spit in the tyrant's eye and take the sword...but it will only be accounted to us in rightousness (at least in my opiinion) if that is what God's will is, and not just our own. That is why I say I will let God judge these men...even though I recognize that our abject enemies will use this occurance to try and bring more death and destruction upon us.
In the mean time we must,IMHO as a people, prepare for this struggle more seriously than we are currently doing. As Carry_Okie has said...this is serious, life or death business.
