I will not criticize individuals. Our government failed.

It's not what you say under extreme duress that matters, it's what's in your heart. Suppose they had knives to your childrens throats, you'd proclaim whatever they wanted, even if in your heart you didn't believe it.

Don't you think that is why people have been admonished to not take the mark of the beast no matter what?

Why warn people to not take the mark, if its ok to do so to ____________.

save their life
save their children's lives
fool the beast
eat
to purchase things
because they love this world and don't want to leave it.
(fill in the blank.)

Christians who take the bible so literally are no different than Islamic jihadists who follow the Koran.

Yeah, I know. It's not a particular belief that's the problem, it's belief itself.

It's perfectly fine for people to adopt a set of beliefs to round out their personality, or give them something to think about; they just shouldn't believe them very much.

Yes we are, we don't want to kill you.

Have you heard about Pope Urban II? Pope Eugene III? (Crusades)

Pope Sixtus IV launched the Spanish Inquisition. What about him?

All religious beliefs taken to extreme are dangerous.

Nobody actually believes the statements are not forced.

If I was in their situation, I would say whatever they wanted either.

And it isn't the Lord's desire that anyone perish. It isn't ours either. But we will never force anyone to convert.

Heck...I was an avid altarboy and taught by the Jesuits.

Growing up, the Catholic religion grounded me.

Today, I don't particularly believe or follow any one major faith.

But...I know it's not right to harm another person, or steal from him...and to respect myself.

And it's not fear of government or authority or punishment that keeps me from committing crimes. It's just common sense of decency.

/ getting off soapbox.....

No!
God isn't listening to to ones loudly proclaimed words. He knows what's in the heart - and it works both ways (recall the pious pharesies).

Very good points. What I am not seeing in this thread, either, is how far most of us would feel it was okay to go in publicly denying our principles, religious or not. I think this question is going to come to many of us, Christian or not, before too long, when Islam makes its all-out assault or when we find ourselves living in a country that has become Muslim by demographics.

And, as you say, for religious people, there must be some acknowledgement that this was not a good thing, that they were horrified by what their weakness led them to do, etc. Frankly, I dont think I'd be brave enough to stick it out. But there wouldn't be a moment afterwards that I wasn't contrite for it.

So, you think it will be ok to take the mark of the beast, because you won't really 'mean' it?

With so many Christians in the world, why do you think so few will enter unto life?

Mat 7:14 Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it

What a load of POO! These guys should have shut their mouths, rather than whimping out and handing these punks such a propaganda bonanza. This crap will be broadcast all over the world some things are worth more than physical freedom, like honor and faith in Christ. In contrast to their cowardice I offer the Italian who was faced with the same choice. His courageous response:

"Now you will see how an Italian dies"

They cut his head off BUT they gained absolutely NO propaganda value because he did not recant and "convert" under threat of pain of death.

Now these two "journalists" have lost their honor and credibility and when all is said and done they are STILL under an Islamic death penalty because they are Islamic apostates and we all know what the "wonderful" religion of Islam says about apostates: death to those who reject "the faith of Islam" after professing (in this case before the ENTIRE WORLD) that they have converted to Islam. These guys are going to be looking over their shoulders for the rest of their lives all so they could "get out of jail free".

Don't flame me, their videotaped statements are reprehensible. What ever happened to "death before dishonor?"

www.persecution.com is a site dedicated to current christians jailed and/or in hiding in various countries. It offers the opportunity to write to governments for release and to encourage the families of slain or prisoned Christians. If you want to read about courage, there are many Christians around the world who are currently suffering in the name of Christ.
