Stevie Nicks Gives iPods To Wounded Soldiers
Starpulse Blog ^ | 6/23/06 | Unattributed

Posted on 08/26/2006 5:57:16 PM PDT by Huntress

Singer Steve Nicks is doing her part to support U.S. troops by donating hundreds of iPods to soldiers wounded in Iraq. The former Fleetwood Mac star regularly visits soldiers at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

She explains, "I refuse to be pulled into the politics of war. But once these soldiers sign up, go to war and come back to a hospital, I will do whatever it takes to make them better." Nicks has provided iPods loaded with her music, along with fellow artists Aerosmith and Elvis Presley.

She has also sent baby clothes to war widows, joined bedside vigils and with the United Service Organization (USO), hopes to provide every returning soldier with a music player. She adds, "Any one of them could be my own child. You can't help falling in love with every one of them."

Lol! Sorry to pop your bubble, but it looks like she's had "work" done. It just doesn't look like her somehow. Better start saving your money! ;)
I think she's very talented and a wonderful person to do what she does for the troops! Thank you, Stevie!

Remember the Rumors album cover. She had the best hair at that time.

"Now that's hot."

Oh yeah baby. Those elegant table napkins perked me right up. Oh... you meant the spaghetti sauce?

Yep. Everyone I knew tried to copy her hairstyle.

"Most thinking people are likely to miss South Park references. Surely you can forgive a fellow freeper for not being familiar with that particular brand of sewage."

I guess I am an exception. When you get the chance, read the book, "South Park Conservatives" by Brian Anderson.

Puts alot into perspective.

Fleetwood Mac was not part of left-wing activist circuit, like Jefferson Airplane or Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. The only band members who I've ever heard publicly identify with any political party were Christine and John McVie... both Republicans.

Those closest I've ever heard Stevie Nicks come to making a political statement was on David Letterman, when she showed clear disregard for Bill Clinton, then declined any further comment (Letterman had asked her about the inauguration performance).

If Streisand was doing the same thing I would feel the same way.

Doing something good for the soldiers and their families is a good thing, despite how someone may feel about the war.

Hey, the second picture you posted is of a singer named Wanda Jackson who is a massively significant person in the history of rock and roll, country and rockabilly music.

You got that right, at last. So now you can feel superior for the rest of the week, as this is the purpose so many come here fior!

"Obviously you spend a whole lot of time among billy goats to make that statement. Stick with the billy goats, you seem to be an expert on that."

It was an obscure South Park reference. Funny episode also. The four children are asked by their teacher to send a dollar to poor starving children in Afghanistan. So the kids send some money.

The Afghan kids, in gratitude or for whatever reason send the four lads a goat. When the kids go to bring the goat back to Afghanistan because they cannot keep it, they go to a military base.

At the base, the goat goes Bahhhhhhhhh and the soldiers yell, "Look it is Stevie Nicks." Very funny.

Saw a video of her one time singing "Let's Have A Party" with Glen Campbell, when he was still a hot session musician and not a "star," playing guitar behind her which rocked righteously.

"...I'm reacting not to Ms Nicks' gesture, which is fine, and is minor..."

Nothing minor about it. It's fabulous. Just like the FReepers standing on the corner every Friday night at Walter Reed to support the troops is fabulous.

Just curious, why are you asking? Didn't I demonstrate I like Wanda Jackson? I don't dislike Fleetwood Mac, and probably have heard more of them (pre-1980) than all those celebrity and clueless bestseller worshippers here (and I don't worship any of it as better than the post 1980 stuff). So, why ask?
