If only the Muslims in Europe with their hearts focused on the Islamic world and their carry-on liquids poised for destruction in the West could behave like the well-educated, secular and Americanizing Muslims in the United States, no one would have to worry.
So runs the comforting media narrative that has developed around the approximately 6 million Muslims in the United States, who are often portrayed as well-assimilated and willing to leave their religion and culture behind in pursuit of American values and lifestyle. But over the past two years, I have traveled the country, visiting mosques, interviewing Muslim leaders and speaking to Muslim youths in universities and Islamic centers from New York to Michigan to California and I have encountered a different truth. I found few signs of London-style radicalism among Muslims in the United States. At the same time, the real story of American Muslims is one of accelerating alienation from the mainstream of U.S. life, with Muslims in this country choosing their Islamic identity over their American one.
A new generation of American Muslims living in the shadow of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks is becoming more religious. They are more likely to take comfort in their own communities, and less likely to embrace the nation's fabled melting pot of shared values and common culture.

Despite contemporary public opinion or perhaps because of it Muslim Americans consider Islam their defining characteristic, beyond any national identity. In this way, their experience in the United States resembles that of their co-religionists in Europe, where mosques are also growing, Islamic schools are being built, and practicing the faith is the center of life, particularly for the young generation.

"Annan apparently finds no irony in the fact that a forum intended to promote dialogue among equals, representing two fundamentally different forms of society, has no members to speak for the European Union or for Western-style democratic states such as Israel, the United States, Canada, or Australia." No bias in this article by this Muslim apologist, belonging to this UN group... http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,176362,00.html "Two names in particular stand out: Iqbal Riza, Annans former chief of staff from 1997 to 2004, and Giandomenico Picco..."
Here, the author of the piece debates Michael Ledeen: http://www.cfr.org/publication.html?id=6130
" Through an official U.S.-Iran dialogue, Iran might agree to open its nuclear facilities to routine International Atomic Energy Agency inspections if the United States offered incentives in return, such as the release of Iranian assets frozen since the 1979 revolution and an end to trade sanctions." I also don't believe she found little evidence of Muslim extremism in America. It's all over the news, everyday. She didn't look too hard. Jihadis are all over this country. She is a liar and a Muslim apologist.
It's important to note that Walid Shoebat and Zak Anani are both Christians now. I don't know about the fellow from Dearborn.
they (radical Muslims, all these friggin "Councils", CAIR, Council of This, Council of That, islamo facists in US) are counting the days when the libs/dems take over....then watch what happens
The writer makes the incorrect assumption that most of us actually belive that American Muzzies are assimilating.
The response...
Despite contemporary public opinion or perhaps because of it Muslim Americans consider Islam their defining characteristic, beyond any national identity.

Proposal:
All Americans, regardless of creed, color or National heritage, should henceforth be considered SPIES if they do not consider themselves to be American. Without hyphens.
This whole stupidity of hyphenated identity can only lead to Bankanization and civil war. Or terrorism.
There's no room for hyphens.
Let's throw all hyphens into camps. "For the children".
the average annual income of a Muslim household surpasses that of average American households
Translation: "We only take cash and the IRS doesn't know. It's our c-u-l-t-u-r-e, you see"
Why should we expect anyone to assimilate anymore when the multiculturalists among us, who run the education "schools" in this country, actively fight against making anyone assimilate and against asserting that the US is good or unique?
You are absolutely right! Only a week ago I encountered a woman whose accent was so thick I could barely understand her. I asked her how long she has lived in the U.S. and she said "TWENTY SEVEN YEARS"! She went on to tell me that she was going to retire to Southern CA "Where there is a large community of people from Viet Nam". We are only a collection of 'little countries' not A country anymore. God help us.
One would think that a religious Muslim would recognize and appreciate this freedom and value the country that enabled this to be their daily reality.
The only 'freedom' they value here is the freedom to make money. They can hang out a shingle and open a business and we 'open minded' Americans will trudge in and pay the price ('cash only please') while they laugh at us.
Why do we still accept immigrants (legal) from Muslim countries?
I have been asking this question since September 11, 2001.
Ask anyone who lives near a long-time Islam conclave in a suburb if they are assimilated or not......or ever will be.
Amen. Couple of years ago we celebrated Fourth of July with hot dogs and beans in the city park, surrounded by roasting lamb, goats and God knows what. We were celebrating Independence Day. They were celebrating a day off from work.
Glad I'm too old to live long enough to see all this. God help my grandchildren!
Bump for later read.
CAIR would have been shocked if I had been in the President's shoes on 9/11. Mecca, Medina, Tehran, etc., would not be what they are today.

That's a good point.
I can sort of see where the ladies are coming from. Our culture has gotten so sexualized, I mean, you can't find clothes for a 6 year old that doesn't make them look like a stripper! It's ironic though, that they are emphasizing modesty, based on the same religion that inflames such intolerance and hatred.
It's the same mistake the ruler of Iran is making. Based on what I read on his blog the other day, it sounds like he is upset at the tyrannical monarchy that ruled Iran and kept the populace in the dirt. They instead tried the American model of society and government to replace/combat it. But he is rejecting it, because he equivocates it with our degraded and deprived culture and not the advances in rule and law that would really pull his nation out of the 13th century.
