'Wife stopping husband from having sex un-Islamic'

Saturday August 26 2006 12:05 IST

ISLAMABAD: A woman Member of National Assembly (MNA) in Pakistan has said that married women in her country should not be treated like “buffaloes” when it comes to men forcing sex on them, and be given due respect.

Kashmala Tariq, who is also a member of the NA’s Select Committee on Women’s Protection Bill, proposed that a husband having sex with his wife without her consent “should be tried under rape charges”.

Men should not have sex with their wives against their will, the Daily Times quoted her as saying.

According to her, other members of the committee, including Mehnaz Rafi, Zahid Hamid and Wasim Sajjad, had endorsed her viewpoint.

However, Rashmala’s proposal received a jolt when federal Minister of State for Religious Affairs, Dr Aamir Liaqat Hussain opposed her idea saying that it was “un-Islamic to stop husbands from having sex with their wives even if they were doing so without their consent”.

Western women are going to have a rude awkening when the Islamofascists move in and take over and those "liberated women" find themselves living under sharia law.

Organizations such as NOW, Planned Parenthood, NARAL, etc view Christians as their #1 enemy. Christianity teaches that abortion is wrong, and that Almighty God created us.

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me
were written in your book before one of them came to be.

Psalm 139 13-16

Christians also remind feminists and liberals that forgiveness comes from accepting Jesus Christ into your heart.

You are correct when you say that feminists may discover someday what beasts Muslim men are.

They should know that "The enemy of my enemy" is not their friend. In fact, that enemy will be their worst nightmare.

How one woman coped

On the night of June 23, 1993, Lorena Bobbitt cut off her husband's penis with a kitchen knife as he lay sleeping in their Manassas, Virginia, home. She then drove off with the severed appendage and flung it out her car window. Police performed a diligent search and located it, and it was then surgically reattached.

In statements to police, she explained that she had cut off the penis because her husband was "selfish" and "wouldn't  ...

She was charged with "malicious wounding," but was found not guilty in 1994 [1] on the grounds that she had experienced temporary insanity causing an irresistible impulse to wound her husband, who had also physically abused her. Therefore, she was not liable for her actions. She was, however, ordered to spend 45 days in a psychiatric hospital.

John also faced charges stemming from accusations of assault against Lorena. He was acquitted of a charge of marital sexual assault in September 1993.

Some feminist political activists[citation needed] and Ecuador residents[citation needed] were vocal supporters of Lorena during the media ordeal..

". How can we ever expect this group of people to embrace a civilized way of life when their religious leaders have a caveman mentality? (scratching head in amazement)"

We can't expect them to govern in a civilized manner when they cannot even magage to treat their spouses with dignity and respect.

Someone will come out and say something like "the moderate moslems don't rape their wives". Just like whenever I hear this kind of "moderate moslems don't etc, etc" garbage about other topics my response is the same. mY response is "there are no moderate versions of moslems because there are no moderate versions of the koran".

On 9/12 I was shocked to figure out what islam is. I never had paid attention to it. Since that time I've seen the real islam over and over and I really don't need to learn anything else about it. I we outlawed islam in the US and tore down all the mosques I would not shed a tear.

Wow I had guessed Buffalo rape was rampant in Pakistan but I guess now we know for certain.

Slick was the one who pioneered the practice. In Clinton's book, there is a free DVD offer starring Bill illustrating buffalo rape.

Free DVD offer inside. Don't miss it. Will not be sold in stores. Only $14.95. Buy now!

Well, I hate to throw a damper on this, but when a husband has sex with his wife, it's not rape. It may be violent and even criminal, depending on the circumstances, but it should be differentiated from rape. Muslim women would be better advised to work on ordinary human rights for women, like the right not to be stoned and the right not to be divorced arbitrarily at a word and the right not to be beaten.

Forced sex is certainly ugly and reprehensible, but married people do have conjugal obligations, too.

How about they start by punishing the real rapists, who are evidently all too common and usually get off without even a scolding, while their victims are killed instead?

Going back even further in people's thinking, if she gets pregnant, that means she enjoyed it.

If a husband forces his wife to have sex against her will, it is rape. Sorry.

Christian approach:

Paul says that those who are married should not deny themselves to the other except for a time for prayer and fasting.

St. Thomas Acquinas says that satisfying their spouse sexually is a duty of married persons.

Not performing the duty of marriage used to be a grounds for divorce in English common law.

Jewish approach:

The Torah allows one week abstinance for prayer and fasting (which sounds very similar to Paul's teaching), but countenances sex as an obligation of the man upon the entreaty of the woman.

The Old Testament allowed a man to marry another wife, as long as he maintains the material support of his prior wives and the duty of marriage to her/them (which would be rather difficult to do if she/any of the them actually enjoyed sex instead of seeing it as a duty, but which wouldn't be a problem for a wealthy man if she/they weren't interested in sex).

This teaching has long been dropped, and the Jewish approach is now somewhat similar to the Christian approach but still has the aspect that sex is the perogative of the woman, but - since polygamy is not allowed - there is a greater emphasis that woman must not use her power to deny her husband sexual fulfillment.

As you can see, the Christian approach seeks to treat men and women equally, while the old Jewish way had an assymmetric approach. The modern Jewish approach is something in between.

The problem we are grappling with is this: sex should be voluntary within marriage, however each of the parties (and especially the female) should understand that the other party has no legal means of sexual fulfillment except within the marriage.

The ultimate recourse to an unfulfilled marriage is divorce, but this traditionally would be a tragedy.

Divorce is such a bad thing that society used to countenance laisons by those in unfulfilling marriages, so as to maintain the household for the sake of the children and for other purposes. However, as divorce becomes increasingly acceptable, such laisons are now becoming increasingly scandalous.

Compare where we are with the primitive understanding of the full humanity of woman in most Muslim countries. I am not saying that we are perfect or have satisfactorily resolved the issues that are involved. I am actually of the opinion that we are still trying to figure out how to have marriages that are conducive to human happiness and how to best protect children, while recognizing that women are fully human. But, in comparison, most Muslim countries are far behnd.

Cicero, you're 100% wrong. Rape is rape, married or not. In most states (and I wish it were all) marital rape is still rape, as it should be.

Married people may have "conjugal obligations" but failure to live up to those conjugal obligations NEVER grants one partner the right to force sex on the other.

No means no even if you're married, unless you're a Muslim woman.

It is one topic to discuss how spouses can attempt to attain sexual compatibility while recognizing each others' dignity.

It is another topic to discuss why a husband should be entitled to force himself on his wife irregardless of her free will.

So while the chrisitan tradition recognizes the duty of spouses to care for the sexual needs of their partner, there is nothing that condones rape.
