In an Election 2006 conference sponsored by Paul Weyrich and the Free Congess Foundation this afternoon, panelist Robert Novak stated that based on his and others significant research he believed the GOP would lose between 27-30 seats in the House this fall.

Novak is an idiot. His political instincts are 2nd to everyones.
I'm just waiting for the GOP to actually win seats, it would be classic. just like in 2004 when democrats expected to gain in congress and the seante they got slapped.
I have a hard time believing what Novak says or writes. He seems to be on the fringe so many times.

It's my firm belief that many, if not most of you, are in deep denial. You're whistling past the graveyard.
A paleoconservative, I was voting the straight Republican ticket before many of you were born but I believe they're gonna get their clocks cleaned come November. And as far as this fiscal conservative is concerned, they'll deserve it.
Repulican elites i said. They get into a tizzy because they shove their rino policies down our throats and expect us to comply with their pro cfr, pro illegal alien,etc. stuff. If they stuck to their guns and were unabahsed conservatives and not nervous nellies, we wouldn't have this problem.
Because there are so few of them and they dont control anything. Republicans control Presidency, House, Senate and supposedly the Court.
In the few places where Dems are elected, like the two coasts and in innercity areas, there is only one party. In places like Ohio, IL, PA, and FL, etc Republicans are in bad shape for a variety of reasons.

That is a separate issue. I'm just defending their nervousness about election outcomes. It is well justified, and always has been. The Rats have enormous power in this society, and it's reflected in our narrow margins.
I realize I misquoted you slightly, but the point is the same. The party elites have been right to be anxious about keeping Congress, not only this year but in previous years. I would add that regular Republicans should be anxious too. Not anxious in a paralyzing and discouraged way, but in an energized and resolute way. That's how you win.
No, but he did extremely well with the Republican vote.
There are probably some good examples of Novak as a lousy prophet, but this isn't one of them.
Old Lizard Face and Dick Morris love to hear themselves talk. That Fox should be paying for their blabbering, when they have zero credibility, doesn't say much for the judgement of Roger Ailes.

Of course, you should always do whatever you YOU believe is best, don't take ANYONE's word for it.
Speaking from a position of little research, my gut feeling is that this election hinges on Republican turnout, which in turn will be determined by 2 things:
-How badly have they alienated us by treating conservative values so poorly?
-Is the party faithfull willing to let Pelosi and company take over? Impeach Bush, cut & run from Iraq, capitulate in the WOT and turn it into Operation Appeasement?
It is going to interesting. I just hope it is interesting in a good way.
