Novak's prediction does not comport with his own chart, that just came out a day or so ago. So he must think there will be further deterioration in Pubbie chances, or forgot his own chart, or something.

"The pubs haven't made much use of their majority..."

No they haven't, but they certainly have time to get their acts in gear. Three months is an eternity in politics. The GOP better stop their foolish infighting and come together to strategize to beat the hell out of the dems.

The GOP has made their constituents very angry over immigration and spending issues. Donations have been lacking. With the money they do have, the Republican party better have some damn clever ads up their sleeves. Pointing out their stark differences with the dems can be cleverly done in tasteful and poignant ads. They better spend wisely, for their majority really is at stake.

Of his two contradictory predictions, I know which one I would be more likely to bet on to seem smart 10 weeks from now. On other hand, things are somewhat less dismal today than a little bit ago. Novak predicted a GOP gain of 5 senate seats in 1998, on cnn, on the Saturday before the election.

The Minnesota 6th is going to be tight. Mark Kennedy stepped down to run for Senate. Michelle Bachmann will be trying to defend the seat. The district leans Republican but she's not a shoe-in by any means. Her opponent, Patty Wetterling, has tons of name recognition and has run for this seat before. In 2004 she got 45% against the incumbent Kennedy.

This is a toss-up race and the Dems will pull out everything they can to beat their arch-nemesis Bachmann (heck, she makes me look liberal by comparison!). This is a good race to throw money at if you'd like to make a difference. Michelle can certainly use all the help she can get.

Excellent choice of a bellweather. I can't think of a better one, at least for open seats. Where incumbents are in play, it gets a bit more complicated.

And the President can enforce EXISTING LAW, which he has not done.

Well, damn. Let's just get on with impeaching the President for not being a king.

Let's blame the President because the electorate has not insisted that their local officials enforce the law of the land.

Hells bells...let's turn the Congress over to the Demonrats because GWB has not been able to change the hearts and minds of the officials YOU elected on the state and national level.

You want my advice, Soul Seeker? Put up on the local level or suffer in silence.

I don’t think we were short on laws just short on enforcement

Call your Representatives and Senators. This is the surest way to affect change and stop passing blame.

IMHO, the problem is the media. People actually BELIEVE what they read and see on television. We know how left-leaning and lying the media is but lots of folks don't and they vote what they read. How foolish mortals can be sometimes.

"There are probably some good examples of Novak as a lousy prophet, but this isn't one of them."

The fact is that 93% is not 99% or even close to 99%. Novak has been endlessly wrong in his silly predictions. He was wrong about our pulling out of Iraq by 2005 and he was wrong twice in his prediction of Rehnquist's retirement announcement. No wonder he's such a popular "Republican" with the MSM.

Let's not forget some of the abortion/stem cell stuff he's signed. He's pro-life and he's proven that.

The older Novak gets, the nuttier he gets. I enjoy reading his columns, but his prognostications regarding the gaining or loss of seats leave a lot to be desired. I think Rollie Evans did the bulk of the grunt work with actual numbers-crunching while the Prince of Darkness got the gossip.

Somebody save this and let's see how good his prognosticating skills are!

It will be here when the time comes....

I have already called Novac a shark jumper twice today....No need to repeat it.

I agree we will have losses, but they will come over the next two elections, and not all at once.

I think 13-15 this go around...More in 08 if we do not get our stuff together by then.

Could be, we can't and have worked ourselves out of power. Think about it.....

All our normal issues are not issues anymore with the public. Their taxes are lower, and nobody cares about smaller governments. All we have is security, and if we get hit again, that one goes too.

Time to reassess what the hell we are trying to do here. IMO. The small "g" fiscal conservative line is not selling hot dogs. The social conservative complaining and attempted government interventions in the things people want to do is not selling either.

The smart money goes to the center to be elected and governs to the right after the vote..

I not sure we can herd these cats to get in any sort of line and coalesce for the elections to come.

If we don't, we lose. Simple as that.

LOL. The Rothenberg prediction of minus 20-25 seats is more relevant however. Rothernberg is not senile, and does his homework, and I respect him. I am back to around minus 15 seats myself, plus or minus, but I don't do this for a living.
