Online viewers will be able to watch live reports of memorial services through one of the feeds. So that viewers won't accidentally stumble upon graphic footage from 2001, the replay feed will be covered with a notice instructing users to click only if they want to watch.
"Our users may choose to view the stream of coverage from Sept. 11, or live coverage of memorial services at Ground Zero, or they may click through the numerous interactive elements on the site," said David Payne, senior vice president and general manager of CNN.com. "They have the power to determine the best way for them to remember the anniversary."
CNN is a unit of Time Warner Inc.
It's a great idea, but it will be very unsettling.
Thanks for letting us know about this.
Are they going to show Bush reading "My Pet Goat" too?
Now starts the whining by the left.
I wonder how many dumb asses out there will see it and think it's really happening. It will have an Orson Welles effect!
That that's a conspiracy.
But I have to work that day!
I wish it were possible to synchronize the playback of three or four network feeds from that day and see it unedited and uneditorialized.
Why not just go to YouTube and watch the videos of the people jumping off the buildings, of the different angles of plane 2 hitting the tower that were never broadcast?
I did that the other night and had nightmares.
I was watching Fox & Friends that morning. In fact, I remember it was fashion week and they were interviewing the wife of singer Rob Thomas of Matchbox 20 about something to do with fashion when E.D. broke in a reported the Trade Tower being struck by a plane.
Cool. This time around we'll be able to keep an eye out for all those explosives the government planted under Tower 2.
I missed quite a bit after the 2nd plane hit because we were driving home to Ohio from Baltimore as fast as we could.
We heard about the Pentagon on the radio and drove just south of where the other plane hit on the highway.
Not much time spent blaming Clinton admin. officials for what they could'a/should'a done. After all, it's CNN.
Nagin's "hole in the ground?"
I think this is a good idea. A very sad event, but Americans need to be reminded of the serious threat of terrorism and renew their patriotism.
Bravo. Every station should be doing this. There is abundant material from that day that we never get to see. I will be watching, and recording, the feed. We may not get another chance before it is stashed back in the vault because it is too "upsetting".
I can remember that day like we all can. It was the worst time of my life. Out of work. No prospect of work either. Sitting at home watching Imess in the Morning when PMSNBC broke in saying a plane has hit the World Trade Center. So I started to surf around and ended up on my local CBS station. At that every moment in time, the second plane hit. I saw that live. Its been burned into my memory ever since. I'll watch that on CNN.com.
