In lieu of potentially demoralizing issues such as Iraq, Allen addressed conservative causes -- the pledge of allegiance, judicial nominees, and arctic oil drilling to lower gas prices ("It won't bother any of the mosquitoes up there"). He regained some of his usual brashness when he criticized the Bush-backed immigration legislation as "convoluted," "outrageous" and "absurd.

Has there ever been a more poignant example of media bias favoring the Democrats than this piece by the Washington Post....I don't think so.
I said from the get-go on this situation that the only problem was that Allen appoligized!
It might be fun to put up a poll on FR, that asks, if Romney, McCain, and Giuliani were the only names on the ballot for the GOP 2008 nomination, whom would you vote for? There would be four choices, the three on this hypothetical ballot, and a fourth choice, which was would not vote, and sit it out.
Governor Sanford has also said that he won't run.
Here you go:

Good idea...I am curious to know how fellow members would vote. Used Jim's link above and voted...this election, like the two prior, means so much.
Is there any any name you would care to suggest, or are we left with just the three names, and Huckabee as a potential, but some say, flawed, "white knight," for this cohort?
You're the man! Thanks, from this "RINO." :)
Ya, I saw that. Zogby + interactive poll = not much of any use.
If we are really left with just those three from the A List then the choice of the Right will almost surely be Newt Gingrich.
But he does not stand by his wives, now does he? How does THAT appeal to the cohort in question? Newt has a host of other flaws, but enough already.
Rudy's not much of a homebody either.. And Romney's a liberal Mormon. To merely mention them overstates the size of the constituency. :)
McCain is, well, McCain. See my tagline for details.....
We are positing here that the BIG three, do not appeal to the subject cohort. So is the twice divorced chap (I think it is two, but maybe three), the white knight to same?
In any event, Rudy has an early lead on FR. I must be so persuasive or something. :)
LOL. I will mark you down as a Newt fan, as it were, well not exactly, but whatever. :)
Mark this down as the date you were totally wrong when people in the future ask you for electoral predictions.
If Rudy continues to raise money the way he has been and stays true to himself he will emerge as the least polarizing and most electable GOP candidate.
Let's see, anti 2A, pro-abort, pro-gay, pro-illegal... I can see how Rudy wouldn't be polarizing. Oh, and there's the matter of how he took up with his current wife while married to the mother of his children to rally the social conservatives who remain unconvinced he's really such a dream candidate.
Yeah, with fans like me..... :)
