'Fox newsmen held by Rogue Fatah men'
Jerusalem Post (excerpt) ^ | August 25, 2006 | KHALED ABU TOAMEH

Excerpt -

The two Fox News employees kidnapped in the Gaza Strip recently are being held by one of Fatah's militias, Palestinian Authority security sources and Hamas activists told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday.

On Wednesday, a hitherto unknown group calling itself the Holy Jihad Brigades claimed responsibility for the abduction and demanded that Muslim prisoners in US jails be freed within 72 hours.

The kidnappers released a video showing correspondent Steve Centanni of Washington DC and cameraman Olaf Wiig of New Zealand dressed in training suits and sitting cross-legged on the floor inside a dark apartment.

What the kidnappers appear to really want- not the release of prisoners held by US- but MONEY, is what they should get, and then some "payback". Maybe we could get some charity- some NGO- to front the $$$$, then get Steve and Olaf back safe, then come down like a ton of bricks on either the bag-men or the perps, if we can determine who they are. If we can't find out who the principle b****rds are, then we smack the people collecting for them. And hit them so hard they won't find that kidnapping can be a successful "enterprise". Easier said than done, for sure.

Then again, what's Israel's actual record on this sort of thing? I thought they had an official policy of not giving any ransom, ever. True? Probably works in the long run, but in the meantime ...

New Group my ass. Just another pack of slimey Islamic criminals using the guise of Islamic Patriotism to make a few bucks. Every time two kidnapping pieces of slime get together to rob the people they come up with some crazy name and call themselves Freedom fighters, They are common criminals, thats all.

Allowed to run wild by the chaotic, idiotic ,fun loving murderous scum that portends to lead these so called countries.

The world allows this chaos because they dont want this scum to turn off the oil spigot. In essence we are all being held for ransom. In a world where commmon sense and
decency prevailed, the world would unite and go in and clean out this nest of thieves.

Ali Baba and the Forty thieves has become Ahmadinejhad and the 40 million thieves.

Blog Jawa Report is doing some good reporting on th kidnappings.

According to this site the kidnappers are al qaeda linked and the reasoning for the targetting of Centanni's is that they believed his life could be used as leverage with the US governement because the kidnappers found Centanni's Congressional Press Pass

One explanation that might explain the unusual aspects of this kidnapping is that it was all "set-up" by Hamas and Fatah to give them lots of publicity throughout the world denouncing the kidnapping. If that's the case, then the demands, etc. are all a sham, and the boys will be released unharmed. Meanwhile we haven't heard much lately regarding the IDF prisoner in Gaza.

The criminal captors are not "rogues", they are Islamic muslim citizens hell bent on destroying Israel and America. They should ALL be destroyed themselves. All of them!

To read a good article on Islime, go to yourarmstoisrael.org select "sermon notes" and pull up "The Final End Time Beast". Print and save for future reference.

My take on this is that it's just a name they made up to cover their own backsides. Now that they have their "Palestinian Authority" crap, we more or less have their address so they can't very well say anything except "some other dude did it". Seems to be the islamic way.

I'm sure Steve Centanni knows there is no way the US will release prisoners incarcerated here, but he was forced to make that propaganda video anyway, just as Jill Carroll was. I suspect they were taken captive by a group that is ignorant of US policy, and they really believe the US will exchange them.

I can't remember the US being involved in any sort of prisoner exchanges since the return of Nicolas Daniloff from the Soviet Union in 1986 on trumped up espionage charges, in exchange for a Russian spy.

"What the kidnappers appear to really want- ..." (is money)-

Am I sure? No. Only fairly sure. They appear not to be "official" Hamas b-tards and they appear to be naive- chancing getting us mad at Hamas/PA/ and everyone living in Gaza. Not to say that Hamas always acts logically. But the facts- that no one admitted to it for quite some time, that Hamas at least says they didn't do it, and that the kidnappers "say" they want us to release prisoners (not bloody likely)- altogether, my best guess is they are a bunch of testosterony 17-to-20-somethings, with no political experience, and a lot to "prove" to themselves and to Hamas, so, because (we read) they haven't been paid their salaries from Hamas, they're hard up for cash. And this is their best bet for the cash. Another thing: they've seen that Pres Bush has promised $230 million to their brethren, Hezbollah, in Lebanon, which in effect, in their eyes maybe, "rewards" the Hezbo's for attacking Israel (and causing the destruction of their own, inside So. Leb). The kidnappers are figuring, what the hey? and really, how can they lose? Hamas isn't about to beat them up. They figure the worst that can happen is they let Steve and Olaf go, they collect nothing, and maybe get a little, secret praise from Hamas for at least trying, and maybe even getting paid by Hamas for past evil deeds or even for releasing the newsmen (Hamas pays the ransom, in other words, to keep US from bombing them to smithereens). I know that's wishful thinking on my part, but I understand that that has been a pattern in Gaza (kidnapping for $ ransom, then letting them go when they don't get it).

Ditto- they come up with new names all the time- fools the fools at NYT, CNN, and BBC into thinking the enemy is "proliferating" (and US policies are causing the proliferation of new groups). It's a well-known, and transparent tactic, one that Arafatwad used and as you say, has become a new form of small business in that part of the world.

I think it's not an oxymoron but instead, repetitive (and redundant!)

"I suspect they were taken captive by a group that is ignorant of US policy..."

Yah, I agree that they're ignorant of our policy, but the one thing we know is: they need money. They'll take it from us or from Hamas, whichever; Hamas might pay them to get out of the way so we (US) don't squish them all into one little oily spot on the map of Gaza. We could do it. Or we could get Sauds to do it, for us, undercover-like. That would be rich.

Well, that's all they're going to get, whether or not it's all they want. IMHO, even idiots like these guys have to know the damage it would do to their "cause" if they harmed a Fox news reporter.
