Senator Craig shouted down at feisty forum on immigration
The Times-News ^ | August 23, 2006

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) -- A town hall meeting with Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, dissolved into angry shouts and walkouts when Craig began discussing the controversial issue of immigration.

"I am sick of listening to these lies," one woman said, interrupting Craig as she left the Tuesday meeting, the Coeur d'Alene Press reported.

Stan Hess, candidate for the North Idaho College Board of Trustees, screamed at Craig as others booed. Before leaving, Hess yelled at a woman, his face inches from hers, as several people tried to separate them.

Craig planned eight town hall meetings in three days during a swing through northern Idaho that ends Thursday.

He's promoting a plan that would allow some of the 12 million illegal immigrants already in the U.S. to apply for citizenship if they meet certain requirements, including having been in the country at least two years and having paid taxes.

"The reality is that there are 2.5 million jobs here that Americans won't do," Craig told the 60 people at the Coeur d'Alene meeting. "For 20 years, immigration laws have failed. We know there's a problem and we're working on it. The first step is securing the border and we're doing that."

Craig asked people to listen to the proposal, but some said they wanted illegal immigrants deported immediately. Others said Craig wasn't doing his job.

The senator is accustomed to spirited town hall meetings, said his spokesman, Sid Smith.

"It's fair to say it was pretty confrontational and at some point looked like it was about to get kind of ugly," Smith told The Associated Press on Wednesday. "But we weren't really thinking about calling the police. I was there and talked to all our staff who were there, and they agreed it was ugly, but not that ugly.

"It certainly isn't the first time it's been a very spirited and emotional town hall meeting," Smith said. "I would say (Craig) wasn't surprised or disappointed in that."

Craig also held town hall meetings in Sandpoint and Bonners Ferry on Tuesday, which Smith said were more subdued.

The whole "prices will go way up" argument is bogus anyway.

You give a lettuce picker a $5/hr raise above what he's currently paid. He picks 200 heads of lettuce an hour. We're really worried about lettuce costing another 2.5 CENTS per head ?

Studies repeatedly show the overall price increase at less than 1% if all illegal workers were replaced with legal workers. Check www.cis.org to see the price increase argument is BS.

Illegal Immigrant Pleads Guilty To Deceiving Cessna

Wed, 23 Aug '06
Had Accused Company Of Using Status Against Him

He once went to the media with his case to receive medical treatment for injuries he says he suffered on the job at Cessna in Wichita. Now... Rogelio Ortega-Guzman has pleaded guilty to charges of fraud in making his claim for Worker's Compensation.

Back in May, Guzman told reporters that Cessna was using his illegal immigrant status like a sword of Damacles -- if he filed for workman's comp, the company would out him to Immigrations and Customs.

He did... and, as Aero-News reported, was arrested the next day, along with four other suspected illegals.

In court this week, Guzman pled guilty to three counts related to his job at Cessna -- fradulently obtaining a Social Security Card and resident alien card, filing a worker's comp claim with a false Social Security number, and deceiving Cessna by using that number. The Associated Press says he'll be sentenced in November.

Rogelio's wife, Maria Leticia Ortega, also faces immigration charges.

mkjessup, you and the likes of the Tancredo's and Hayworth's have got my support!
"gub"...Thanks for the pings, they are appreciated!
The whole BS argument of "doing jobs Americans won't do" is getting tiresome. They're doing the jobs for the pay that Americans won't do them for. I've read that the costs of this illegal-underground workforce far outweigh the benefits and the cost is getting higher.
The reports coming out this week of Spanish speaking OTM's coming over the border should be the latest Wake-The-F-Up America alarm!

Glen Beck said tonight that he wants to choke businesses basically becuase of the people they hire.

He sounded hillaryish with the venom coming out about basically people who are farmers or own evil janitorial services.

Yes, but you're a troll. The Willie Green of illegal immigration, except you're in favor of it.

Cheers!

There are plenty out there, but IMO, some like you and Shermy only want the "correct" type of people to fill them

You're the one who says that white people wouldn't want their children doing janitorial work and therefore Mexicans should do it.

"Civility in public debate remains dead and buried."

When it comes to jackass politicians who's only goal is to get elected and not enforce our laws.

It SHOULD be dead and buried.

Good bloody question.

Here is what I am pointing out...This is our country. We the citizens of the United States elect representatives that make laws governing, among other things, the immigration policy of our Naqtion. As a citizen, I am outraged about our country's immigration laws. I am infuriated that our own government will not enforce those laws. I am further infuriated that politicians and other citizens criticize those of us that demand our borders and country be respected and our laws obeyed. Then, we have others that think I should shut up because I sit behind a desk. Well, in order to get this "desk" I sit behind, I came up through the enlisted ranks in the USN, studied for 18 hours a day 6 days a week and 4-8 hours on the 7th day for what seemed like forever only then was I allowed to serve on nuclear submarines. When my enlistment was over I went into commercial nuclear energy starting at the bottom. I worked hard, got an NRC license, and continued to grow and make a success of myself. So...I think I have d@mn sure earned the right to have an opinion about issues facing this country without getting permission from you or anyone else to express those opinions. And frankly, I don't care what you say, write or think about me, I am tough enough to take it. Other's aren't that hard shelled. Picking on them to grind your ax isn't nice. Good night sir.

Every pro-amnesty politician in local, state and federal government should be voted out ASAP. They're traitors.

It's too late here in California, the most invaded state in the USA. Here they crave and get on their knees for the "hispanic vote", whether it's legal or illegal.
