Lynn Cheney: Condi Rice for President?
NewsMax.com ^ | 8-18-06 | NewsMax.com Staff

The idea of a woman president is not so abstract now that the 2008 election nears, Lynne Cheney, wife of vice president Dick Cheney said Wednesday.

"If you're thinking of Condi Rice, I think she has good credentials," Cheney said.

During an appearance sponsored by the Aspen Institute, Cheney talked mostly about education and history but did venture into current politics, including the possibility of women running for president. She did not mention New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, widely thought to be considering a presidential run in 2008.

"(National security) is the driving issue," Cheney said. "The stereotype exists that women are softer. Maybe it's not true. I don't think it's true. But it's a little bit of a challenge to overcome for a woman president."

Polls, smolls. We don't even know what Condi stands for.

I do. She is a second amendment absolutist, and she understanbs Communism.

That covers about 90% of the fundamental principles that are important for a President.

She might just "out-Reagan" Reagan.

Of course, like every other candidate, save the ones we know are RINOs, there is much to be learned about her detailed positions.

Dr. Rice has written several books and numerous articles. How many of them have you read?

I have read some of her articles and none of her books, which probably places me in the same boat as 99.9% of the country. I don't view her as an intellectual heavyweight ala Kissinger whose books I have read. What books has Rice written aside from the one co-written with Zelikow? Have you read that one?

If you know nothing about Condi - then you obviously haven't tried. Just because the LameStreamMedia isn't going to trumpet her views like they do Shillary's - doesn't mean they aren't there for the reading.

I have read enough to know her personal background, studies, her public persona, musical abilities, etc. What I don't know are her positions on an array of public policy issues. I also don't know what I don't know. If she were to become a candidate for President, I am sure that the Dem operational research folks will find any skeletons, which is why I would like to see her run for a lessor public office first.

LOL. You are easy to please. Does she understand militant Islamic fundamentalism, that's the question. I am not so concerned about Communism any more.

Her books include Germany Unified and Europe Transformed (1995) with Philip Zelikow, The Gorbachev Era (1986) with Alexander Dallin, and Uncertain Allegiance: The Soviet Union and the Czechoslovak Army (1984).

You miss the point. To understand Communism is to understand both the perils of socialism at home, and of totalitarianism abroad.

To understand Communism is to understand liberty (few do).

To understand liberty is to understand militant Islam.

Communism was an ideology that was never fully implemented politically. It is just a cloak for another form of tyranny. The US is really practicing democratic socialism and we are moving closer and closer to the European model. We don't need to understand communism to understand totalitarianism, which predates and supercedes Communism. It should be the other way around, to recognize the perils of Communism, you should understand totalitarianism in its various guises.

To understand Communism is to understand liberty (few do). To understand liberty is to understand militant Islam.

Meaningless, pretentious profundity.

A question which has been poorly answered or not answered here has been:
Which of the leading potential Republican candidates is a better candidate for winning the Presidency and then being an effective President than

Condoleezza Rice?

Rudy Giuliani? (RINO is kinder than the Liberal he is)
John McCain? (RINO)

or any of the rest of the pack which are way behind the above three among which are several which also are "not running" -- so far.

George Allen
Haley Barbour
Sam Brownback
Jeb Bush
Dick Cheney
John Cox
Elizabeth Dole
Bill Frist
Newt Gingrich
Charles Grassley
Chuck Hagel
Mike Huckabee
Alan Keyes
Bill Owens
George Pataki
Tim Pawlenty
Colin Powell
Mitt Romney
Mark Sanford
Rick Santorum
Tom Tancredo
Tommy Thompson
others?

My vote is for George Allen.

I think it's apparent that after his latest "Macaca" faux paus, George Allen is, to use your phrase, in over his head. He's not ready for "prime time".

've only read one of them - Uncertain Allegiance.

That was her dissertation. Amazon only has one copy available and the price is $215. If you have a copy, it could prove to be valuable.

"However Dr. Rice was not so warmly received by her peers. Joseph Kalvoda of American Historical Review had the following to say about her dissertation which happens to be the original copy of this book:

"Rice's selection of sources raises questions, since [s]he frequently does not sift facts from propaganda and valid information from disinformation or misinformation. [S]he passes judgments and expresses opinions without adequate knowledge of facts. It does not add to [her] credibility when [s]he uses a source written by Josef Hodic; Rice fails to notice that this "former military scientist" (p. 99) was a communist agent who returned to Czechoslovakia several years ago.

Rice's generalizations reflect herack of knowledge about history and the nationality problem in Czechoslovakia. For example....Rice's discussion of the "Czechoslovak Legion" that was "born during the chaotic period preceding the fall of the Russian empire" (pp. 44-46) is ridiculous. (It was "born" on September 28, 1914.) [S]he is clearly ignorant of the history of the military unit as well as of the geography of the area on which it fought.

O.K., make that just "ignorant and inbred". I am Anti-abortion. I can't say I'm Pro-life because I believe in capital punishment. But, tell me one "Pro-life" Republican that has STOPPED Abortions. We've had control of the White House and both houses of Congress for 6 years and we still have abortions. It is no longer a political issue, it's a Judicial Issue. And as far as you calling Condi a "baby killing candidate"; I'd venture to say she has never killed a baby in her life. How would you like it if she spread the word that you are a NYC, crack head, child molester.

I would love to see Tom Tancredo run. He has guts.

I'd vote for Tom Tancredo in a heart beat. Problem is no Congressman has been elected Prez since Garfield in 1880.

Rice is not going to win the nomination through acclamation or coronation. She will have to compete through the primary system to get votes. Can she put together a first class political organization, raise the money to mount a serious challenge, and be an effective campaigner? Does she have the stomach for the fight?

Which of the leading potential Republican candidates is a better candidate for winning the Presidency and then being an effective President than

Many of those you listed are prepared to do just that. In 1998, how many people had George W. Bush as one of the leading candidates? You can bet that others will emerge than just the three you have listed as the "leading" candidates. A lot can happen in two years. For example, if the situation in Iraq gets worse for the US, Rice would take a major hit given her positions within the Bush administration. A success could give her a boost. But first, Rice must have the fire in her belly to run.

The idea that Condi Rice can be considered as a legitimate candidate to run for President as the nominee of one of the two major parties seems incredulous to me. It doesn't speak well of our political system

Hey, I know what let's do; let's keep nominating do-nothing politicians and get in a bigger mess, greater National Debt, bigger spending, corruption and pork......

OH YEAH!! Let's do it. ("If you keep doing what you've always done; you'll keep getting what you've always had.")

Yeah, right and Condi will change all of that by herself. The GOP has been fairly successful in nominating winning candidates. It will be up to the voters in the primaries to select the candidates. Condi must run to win. If she wants to make a serious run, she will have to start soon. She should resign as SecState at least a year to 18 months before Nov 2008 to put together a campaign team and start raising money. She is running out of time.
