SOME WEDNESDAY SPIN! Most in US see no tie between Iraq, terror war: poll Tue Aug 22, 10:29 PM ET A majority of Americans no longer see a link between the war in Iraq and Washington's broader anti-terrorism efforts despite President George W. Bush's insistence the two are intertwined, according to a New York Times/CBS News poll released on Tuesday. Fifty-one percent of those surveyed said the war in Iraq was separate from the U.S. government's war on terrorism. The findings were a considerable shift from polls taken in 2002 and early 2003, when a majority considered the two to be linked, The New York Times said. As recently as June, opinion was evenly split, with 41 percent on both sides of the divide. Now only 32 percent considered Iraq to be a major part of the fight against terrorism, the newspaper said. According to the poll, 46 percent said the Bush administration had concentrated too heavily on Iraq and not enough on terrorists elsewhere. Fifty-three percent said going to war in the first place was a mistake, up from 48 percent in July, The New York Times said. Bush's approval ratings remained unchanged at 36 percent. His popularity has been damaged by the unpopular war in Iraq, in which the U.S. military death toll is 2,610. As recently as Monday, Bush defended the invasion of Iraq as crucial to preventing more domestic terror attacks. "If you believe that the job of the federal government is to secure this country, it's really important for you to understand that success in Iraq is part of securing the country," Bush said during a news conference. The unpopularity of the Iraq war has many Republicans nervous about the party's chances in the November midterm elections in which Democrats are seeking to retake control of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. The Times/CBS News poll of 1,206 adults was conducted Thursday through Monday and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Lets say 9/11 did't happen would anyone really know who he is or what he stands for?

Rudy did two things Newt can only dream of:

1) he threw Arafat out of the State Dinner at Lincoln Center.

2) he gave the Saudi Prince's check back when the Saudi started his moral equivalence diatribe.

Rudy has exec experience, unlike Newt. True Rudy will need to evolve on some traditional Republican issues but seems a more viable candidate.

Of course that's just my opinion... I could be wrong.

The self-absorbed lout probably is in deep self-delusion and denial. Right now, all he can think of is his advancing years ("Oh, poor me")...and how the babes aren't falling over him anymore.

It's obvious who will win. It will be a three way tie for first place, and whitey will be the only loser, because the evil white man is the root of ALL evil in the world. It's so obvious. :) STINKING CRACKER HONKEYS!!! That's what all the libs at CBS want I bet.

Mitt Romney's father, George, was a governor of MI. He too, was a POW, but during the Korean Conflict.

His presidential bid came to a screeching halt when he said he was "brain washed".

Maybe, maybe not. But the fact is that 9/11 did happen and his job performance during and after was exceptional. For that day he was the voice of government to the nation.

Scary thread just posted, source if AFX ( I assume it is a foreign exchange news site):

Iran to announce nuclear 'breakthrough'

TEHRAN (AFX) - Iran will soon announce an atomic breakthrough, the semi-official Mehr news agency reported today, a day after the country responded to an offer aimed at resolving a nuclear standoff.

'This great scientific achievement is the fruit of a long-term research project ... It will be formally announced by a top official,' Mehr quoted an informed source as saying.

I think the job that most prepares one for the presidency is being a janitor at a pre-school. The janitor has to deal with 4-year olds fighting while having no direct control nor authority over them, all the while having to clean up the messes those same four-year olds make.

Beside that, he is the one who is normally given the duty of raising the flag each day.

THe president has to deal with immature congressmen who argue amongst themselves, and always look to the president to solve the problems they create.

Mrutha: "Mr. President! She called me a coward!"

While Newt has an understanding of the issues, I would not vote for him. The ethics problems that led up to his resignation as speaker, as well as his marital or shall I say, extra maratial issues, just leave me with a lot of questions about his character.

Right now I do not know who I'll support and McLaime is not even under consideration.

Anyone who STILL takes NY Times/CBS serious as "News" needs some top level professional help.

I agree with you in principle, but unfortunately the "drive by media" STILL "sets the conversation. Sad, but true, but a lot (diminishing number, yes, but still a lot) of people read those rags. Those that don't, get their news from John Stewart and Comedy Central or the Colbert Report and they are even worse. So...WE know the drive by media is biased I'm not certain that has made it's way into public consciousness...

Did you see Geoffery Nunberg Moonbat on Colbert Report last night? I thought I was going to pull my hair out...what little there is.

The moron doesn't think the left has talking points? "Culture of Corruption", "Bush lied, people...Haliburton", et al.

You have to be stupid to be a liberal.

It sure is suspicious. Two mysterious server crashes during Rush's show in a week. Might be coinsidence, but it could be some pathetic gutless lib that is frustrated that we can exercise our freedom of speech here and talk about the reality of the issues today, and want to silence FR during the show. :) That's liberals for you. "Freedom of Speech for liberals, everyone else SHUT THE F*** UP!!!". Wonder if it could be something other than a cyber-attack.

You're right about Newt's personal life. What I've read (if true) is disturbing and it would definitely come back to haunt him if he ran for President.

I remember that. Amazing how a poor choice of words, one time, can perhaps change the destiny of a nation.

That's true Roccus, but one word from Clinton might have prevented 9/11, but he was afraid. Forever, he will be damned with that.
