SOME WEDNESDAY SPIN! Most in US see no tie between Iraq, terror war: poll Tue Aug 22, 10:29 PM ET A majority of Americans no longer see a link between the war in Iraq and Washington's broader anti-terrorism efforts despite President George W. Bush's insistence the two are intertwined, according to a New York Times/CBS News poll released on Tuesday. Fifty-one percent of those surveyed said the war in Iraq was separate from the U.S. government's war on terrorism. The findings were a considerable shift from polls taken in 2002 and early 2003, when a majority considered the two to be linked, The New York Times said. As recently as June, opinion was evenly split, with 41 percent on both sides of the divide. Now only 32 percent considered Iraq to be a major part of the fight against terrorism, the newspaper said. According to the poll, 46 percent said the Bush administration had concentrated too heavily on Iraq and not enough on terrorists elsewhere. Fifty-three percent said going to war in the first place was a mistake, up from 48 percent in July, The New York Times said. Bush's approval ratings remained unchanged at 36 percent. His popularity has been damaged by the unpopular war in Iraq, in which the U.S. military death toll is 2,610. As recently as Monday, Bush defended the invasion of Iraq as crucial to preventing more domestic terror attacks. "If you believe that the job of the federal government is to secure this country, it's really important for you to understand that success in Iraq is part of securing the country," Bush said during a news conference. The unpopularity of the Iraq war has many Republicans nervous about the party's chances in the November midterm elections in which Democrats are seeking to retake control of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. The Times/CBS News poll of 1,206 adults was conducted Thursday through Monday and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
That was my thinking in 92. To my shame. Somewhere down the line the Good Lord's really gonna make me pay for that.
We miss you! Work, vacation, and no Freeping? You need to get your priorities straight! LOL!!!
They also serve who stand and wait.
You served-- you are a vet. period.
Hubby was enlisted during Viet Nam, did two tours there and spent 1 1/2 years in Saudi and Kuwait during and after Desert Storm (he was officer then, was singled out, his unit was not activated)
Two of his brothers, two brothers in law, my uncles and a cousin all served during Viet Nam- one of them in the Armny, two Navy, one Marine, two Air Force, one ARNG. None of them went to Viet Nam. They are all vets, they all deserve full credit for serving. Period
You, my FRiend, will never have a "feminization" problem!
How will the pro-abortion Guiliani get the nomination from the GOP?
McCrazy using dem talking points against our President and the war effort.......no low too low, ought to be his campaign bus slogan.
Do us Guardsmen qualify as vets, then? Can I at least claim to be a vet one weekend a month?
Voting third party will only get us Hitlery.
He should be under the bus. LOL
Yes Ma'am!
I might have to hold my nose when I pull the lever, and take a bath when I get home, but I'll vote for whatever Republican is the nominee in 2008.
Anyone will be better than the Dem opponent.
How will the pro-abortion Guiliani get the nomination from the GOP?
You are a vet --- Period. Thank you for your service!!!!
Same with me. Drafted in 1964, Ft Dix, Ft Polk and then Ft Richardson AK. MOS 111 until I got wise to the system. Separated 3/19/66, if my Sep Date was after 4/1/66, I would have been extended and sent to NAM. No combat, asked Jar Heads, WW2 Army, Korea etc. All said you are a Nam Vet, why because I could have gone to Nam in a heart beat. US51509754
Exactly right. If Bush was in line with Giuliani on all issues, the war would be fought the same, but there would be two Kennedy/O'conner milk toast moderates on the SCOTUS right now, making liberal minded decisions the past year, there would be ZERO opposition to gay marriage and criticism of those states that passed the bans at the behest of the majority of the voters. There would be millions of embryos being created to harvest for stem cells which cure nothing, because all benefits are found in adult and umbillical stem cells, not embryonic ones. There would be no support for a ban on partial birth abortion from the White House. And the Lacy and Conner Peterson Act wouldn't have been signed, because Giuliani doesn't believe a fetus is a person. RINOs will never win as President. And Giuliani is a RINO. All the rah rah stuff about Giuliani by people is getting old. He does not reflect the GOP plank. It doesn't get any clearer than that. The plank isn't being changed because the majority of Republicans support the plank as it is. It defies logic that suddenly, 51% of Republicans will support a candidate for President who disagrees with half the plank that 80% of Republicans support in total. It won't happen. The 2008 GOP Presidential nominee will be a REAL conservative that will support constructionist Judges, will oppose any gay marriage proposals, will oppose partial birth and other abortions, will support the death penalty for murderers, will oppose useless embryonic stem cell research, and will ALSO fight the War on Terror as agressively as Bush, as strongly as Giuliani would, but better than Giuliani will be a REAL conservative across the board. Not a RINO like Giuliani. My patience on this is wearing thin. Most Republicans are sick of RINOS, they will not pick one for President. Especially as sick as they are as McCain, they won't pick a guy that's even more to the middle than McCain. Won't happen.
AMEN, A.H.! That's the bottom line.
Exactly!!! The alternatives are unthinkable!
And that's sad. The team is supposed to be what comes first. Anyone who would refuse to be Governor or Senator because they only want to be President, is not a team player. They're ream is "I, I, I,". And that doesn't make someone qualified to be President.
not me i'll vote third party if Newt don't get it the party will just have too suffer
