RUSH LIMBAUGH LIVE THREAD, WEDNESDAY August 23, 2006

SOME WEDNESDAY SPIN! Most in US see no tie between Iraq, terror war: poll Tue Aug 22, 10:29 PM ET A majority of Americans no longer see a link between the war in Iraq and Washington's broader anti-terrorism efforts despite President George W. Bush's insistence the two are intertwined, according to a New York Times/CBS News poll released on Tuesday. Fifty-one percent of those surveyed said the war in Iraq was separate from the U.S. government's war on terrorism. The findings were a considerable shift from polls taken in 2002 and early 2003, when a majority considered the two to be linked, The New York Times said. As recently as June, opinion was evenly split, with 41 percent on both sides of the divide. Now only 32 percent considered Iraq to be a major part of the fight against terrorism, the newspaper said. According to the poll, 46 percent said the Bush administration had concentrated too heavily on Iraq and not enough on terrorists elsewhere. Fifty-three percent said going to war in the first place was a mistake, up from 48 percent in July, The New York Times said. Bush's approval ratings remained unchanged at 36 percent. His popularity has been damaged by the unpopular war in Iraq, in which the U.S. military death toll is 2,610. As recently as Monday, Bush defended the invasion of Iraq as crucial to preventing more domestic terror attacks. "If you believe that the job of the federal government is to secure this country, it's really important for you to understand that success in Iraq is part of securing the country," Bush said during a news conference. The unpopularity of the Iraq war has many Republicans nervous about the party's chances in the November midterm elections in which Democrats are seeking to retake control of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. The Times/CBS News poll of 1,206 adults was conducted Thursday through Monday and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Did Rush talk about that Katrina victim who said he wishes Bush could get another four years?

Rudy the navy guy, and Rupert the mountainman did pretty good, except in the energy tests.

Will the Survivor producers insist on Affirmative Action quotas for the African American and Hispanic tribes?

Newt n' Rudy is the candy bar in your Halloween candy that you throw away

LOL, but Allen really has zapped himself...I'm upset not that he said "macaca" but that he has apologized too much for it...I don't think he's a STRONG candidate, even though I probably agree with him more than any of the field. Newt and Rudy are the best of the rest, pending the emergence of an unknown.

here's what Newt did when he was Speaker
Taxes were cut for the first time in 17 years . included cut in the capital gains tax, a $500 per child tax credits for tuition to college and voc-tech schools. The cap gains tax actually ended being scored as a revenue increase, a shift in tax policy debate.

Exactly. Giuliani did what any good Mayor SHOULD have done on a day like 9-11. But he did it better than many would have been capable of. Like "School Bus" Nagin. But because he did his job right, does that qualify him to be President? Much as I like him, and glad as I am that he beat cancer because he's such a likeable guy, he does not represent even 1/3rd of the Republican party and the conservative voters. He just doesn't. At best, he represents 20% of the party faithful, and that other 80% aren't going to take their pro-life, pro-traditional marriage, pro-death penalty for murderers, pro-constructionist conservative Judicial nominees, anti-embryonic stem cell research positions and check those issues at the door, and vote for a RINO, albeit a really nice likeable War-Hawk RINO, for President, when there are several REAL LEGITIMATE conservative Republicans that support ALL not just half of the GOP plank, who are running for President. People like Senator Allen or Congressman Tancredo. Even Newt, though he has some questionable issues which lead to his losing his position as SOTH. Even still, there are real conservatives who support the WHOLE plank. No need for people to settle for a GOP half-planker RINO, just because he's right on the war. Leiberman is right on the war. Shall we nominate him for the GOP Presidential spot in 2008 because he is right on the war??? ACK!!! I'm getting dizzy. :)

Even they voted for him. The alternatives in both elections (that he won, he lost his first to Dinkins) were unthinkable.

He sure did! The Mayor with cajones! I just think he should have run for Governor of NYS instead. The thought of Elliot Specter as Governor send shivers down my spine.
