here's what Newt did when he was Speaker
Taxes were cut for the first time in 17 years . included cut in the capital gains tax, a $500 per child tax credits for tuition to college and voc-tech schools. The cap gains tax actually ended being scored as a revenue increase, a shift in tax policy debate.

I didn't see a tax cut until Bush. As a matter of fact, in my working life, the only tax cuts I saw were from Ford, Reagan and Bush.

StoneWall, you don't have to convince me...Newt's my number one candidate for the time being. The problem is because of the other issues that "get in the way"--the extra-marital affair which WAS pretty tawdry, and the political dalliance with Hillary(?) he's made enemies on this thread that I don't know that we can get past. I'm comfortable with Newt or Rudy. I have to hold my nose on some of Rudy's social views, particularly the civil union issue, but his judicial philosophy is as conservative as the President's. I'm not comfortable with Romney, McCain, Hegel-the-rat; and I don't think Allen has a chance...
