RUSH LIMBAUGH LIVE THREAD, WEDNESDAY August 23, 2006

SOME WEDNESDAY SPIN! Most in US see no tie between Iraq, terror war: poll Tue Aug 22, 10:29 PM ET A majority of Americans no longer see a link between the war in Iraq and Washington's broader anti-terrorism efforts despite President George W. Bush's insistence the two are intertwined, according to a New York Times/CBS News poll released on Tuesday. Fifty-one percent of those surveyed said the war in Iraq was separate from the U.S. government's war on terrorism. The findings were a considerable shift from polls taken in 2002 and early 2003, when a majority considered the two to be linked, The New York Times said. As recently as June, opinion was evenly split, with 41 percent on both sides of the divide. Now only 32 percent considered Iraq to be a major part of the fight against terrorism, the newspaper said. According to the poll, 46 percent said the Bush administration had concentrated too heavily on Iraq and not enough on terrorists elsewhere. Fifty-three percent said going to war in the first place was a mistake, up from 48 percent in July, The New York Times said. Bush's approval ratings remained unchanged at 36 percent. His popularity has been damaged by the unpopular war in Iraq, in which the U.S. military death toll is 2,610. As recently as Monday, Bush defended the invasion of Iraq as crucial to preventing more domestic terror attacks. "If you believe that the job of the federal government is to secure this country, it's really important for you to understand that success in Iraq is part of securing the country," Bush said during a news conference. The unpopularity of the Iraq war has many Republicans nervous about the party's chances in the November midterm elections in which Democrats are seeking to retake control of the U.S. House of Representatives and the Senate. The Times/CBS News poll of 1,206 adults was conducted Thursday through Monday and had a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

Rudy has the highest name recognition on this list with NONE of the negatives

I can live with Rudy for the reasons you suggest, his Executive experience. I like Newt better. Actually a Newt/Rudy ticket would be ideal. Or vice versa...

Did you see Geoffery Nunberg Moonbat on Colbert Report last night?

Not yet, I Tivo those shows and play them when I can relax my gag mechanism. I try to go to bed by 11ish since I have to be here at work by 7. I usually fast forward through the commercials, but I'll look at it later tonight...based on your commentary, I might just fastforward Nunberg Moonbat...

If the white tribe has rednecks, they will win. Otherwise, I expect the hispanics, for the reasons Rush lists.

Don't get me wrong, I like him a lot. He was PERFECT on 9-11. Perfect. But he is a RINO. He is ardently pro-life. And he has not supported gay marriage bans. That is pro-gay marriage. And he does not support the kinds of constructionist Judges like Alito and Roberts that Bush has put up, that most Republicans want to see on the courts. And he's also against the death penalty. I hear what you're saying, he's not a flaming anti-2nd Amendment lib, but he is a RINO. And there are Republicans that are as big in support on the war as Giuliani is, and those other Republicans are also supporting of the big conservative issues that Giuliani is against. Most Republicans do not want a Presidential candidate that is opposed to HALF the GOP Plank. To put it into context, Giuliani is less conservative than McCain. He's just less cutting in his comments about conservative Republicans than McCain is. But McCain isn't as close to the middle on som GOP plank issues as Giuliani is. That needs to be looked at, that's all I'm saying. If Giuliani is the President, we will regret it, because we'll get Kennedy/O'Conner type judicial nominees, there will be no opposition to gay marriage or abortion. Opposition to creating and destroying embryos for embryonic stem cell research will disappear, and all other social conservative issues will have ZERO traction in the White House. That's not what the GOP is about.

Maybe, but if the candidate is Hillary(?) I think that issue is negated. Not only her husband, but too many Vince Foster rumors...
