The Democrat-controlled California Assembly on Monday passed what conservatives describe as a homosexual indoctrination bill.
The bill, SB 1437, says California public schools may neither teach nor sponsor any activity that "reflects adversely" on anyone because of their sexual orientation.
According to the Campaign for Children and Families, a conservative advocacy group, SB 1437 would alter K-12 public education textbooks, instructional materials, and school-sponsored activities "to positively reference transsexuality, transvestitism, bisexuality, and homosexuality, including homosexual 'marriage.'"
The Campaign for Children and Families has lobbied against the bill and is now urging like-minded conservatives to contact Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
"We call upon Governor Schwarzenegger to keep his promise to veto SB 1437, which micromanages public schools by forcing them to promote a gaggle of sexual lifestyles that disturb parents and confuse kids," said Randy Thomasson, CCF president.
"If Schwarzenegger abandons children by signing any of these school indoctrination bills, pro-family voters will abandon him," Thomasson said.
(Schwarzenegger did say that he would veto the bill, but that was before the bill's lesbian author removed a provision that would have required California textbooks to include positive portrayals of GLBT people in contemporary society.)
On Monday, before voting on the bill, seven Republican spoke against it and six Democrats spoke in favor of it.
One of those Democrats, Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, admitted that the point of the bill is to offer nontraditional perspectives on marriage and family:
"The way that you correct a wrong is by outlawing," Nunez said. "'Cause if you don't outlaw it, then people's biases tend to take over and dominate the perspective and the point of view," Nunez was quoted as saying.
"If somebody wants to teach kids in kindergarten that Jack and Jill ran up a hill, this bill doesn't prohibit that," Nunez added. "But it does say that if somebody wants to say that if Jill and Jill ran up the hill and somehow that's wrong -- then this bill says that that is not acceptable."
He said the bill would make schools "safer."
But Jay La Suer, a San Diego Republican, said the bill brings the homosexual agenda into the public schools.
"It's about time we said enough is enough," said La Suer. "Don't push this down the throats of families who don't want it and children who don't understand it. This bill is a basically a predatory bill that preys upon the innocence of children."
Republican Dennis Mountjoy of Monrovia argued that public education is "turning institutions of social experimentation," where the basics are ignored in favor of "social engineering."
The bill passed the Assembly 46-31. It now goes back to the Senate, where final approval or "concurrence" is expected, before it goes to Gov. Schwarzenegger.
I doubt it. The great 'conservatve' Hispanic vote always goes for income redistribution [theft] from the Middle Class, just like the Flower Kids who now have real political power instead of just tie-dyes and Utopian music. The 'vision' won't end until they've driven most most businesses and employers from the state along with folks like me who don't dare turn on the air-conditioning because of artificially high energy prices, thanks to the 'environmentalists' -- including our 'Republican' Governor.
Separation of school and state BUMP!
"It's all part of the big plan".
Not necessarily. Just the political expression of a value system based on infantile Utopian nonsense. Reality is always in the wings just offstage. It'll make a grand entrance one of these days. Count on it.
Thanks!
I will soon be totally absent from FR for some weeks - moving 2000 miles away and winding up here... Unpleasant but necessary. Scripter and DBeers are doing the Homosexual Agenda list (DBeers is not so active at the moment), and even wagglebee does a pinch hit now and then.
If we don't let Reality in at the door when it knocks, one of these days it'll kick the door in.
Arnold said months ago that he would veto this bill.
But that was the original version, not the current watered-down one.
So, I'm not sure what he'll do now.
That doesn't apply to illegal aliens, sodomites or other perverts in California. Their wrongs are protected by perverted leftists that infest the legislature.
There is some room for interpretation when you say you can't teach anything that reflects unfavorably on the protected list of perverts. If in your opinion exposing children to any of that rot is unfavorable, it should be omitted entirely from text books and any in class discussion. Omission is perfectly legal as it doesn't reflect anything about the perverts.
I'm hoping that Idaho will remain a shelter from that kind of hideous taxation and wealth distribution for the rest of my life. If not, I'm not averse to voting with my feet again.
I heard today that Arnold is waffling on his veto promise,
He said the bill would make schools "safer." ( from the article)

Safer for the perverts to teach perversion.
Yes, and their political strength increases with every illegal 'voter' who crosses the border. They vote by the many tens of thousands with the help of the Democrats, and the Pubbies who hem and haw and don't do a damned thing to stop it. Ask Bob Dornan.
I'm just sad I was forced by a family situation to move to CA from my home state of ID in the early 1980s. I envy you: I've fished, hunted and prospected most of that country from The Great Salt Lake to West Yellowstone and beyond. I really miss it. Think of me next time you're enjoying one of the most beautiful sunsets on earth.
A sunset from Chubbuck, Idaho this evening. Enjoy.
Thanks. It's beautiful! Too bad the fires are responsible for all that red. (Come to think of it, we have a few sunsets like that right here in Ventura County during fire season -- or arson season as I call it). I recall the long, long Ieaho evenings with sunsets lasting until nearly 10 p.m. in June and July around the Solstice.
I watch the Kp index on a regular basis. It was off the charts one December night in 2005. The aurora was an amazing shimmering green. Rays of green were streaming down like rays of sunshine. "Curtains" of shimmering green danced across the sky. My wife was very impressed. The dark skies are also excellent for meteor showers.
