You post all the cool threads!
You really do! And thanks! Another great Medved read.
Thanks. The moderators usually don't think so...
We should swap hate mail sometime.
Once again Medved hit the nail on the head!
Where were you a couple of weeks ago when every thread I posted seemed to attract a different jackass posting "this article is stupid."
he refused to dismiss the notion that humanity might have been better off if Europeans had never settled North America in the first place in other words, if the USA as we know it had never come into existence. The most direct way to counter such disgraceful fatuity is with reference to a key element in a classic American contribution to world cinema: Frank Capras Its a Wonderful Life. George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) learns to appreciate his own worth after getting a glimpse of the direction his community of Bedford Falls might have taken had he not been around to serve and save it. By the same token, America bashers might try a thought experiment in which they imagine a world in which the USA never existed and played no current role. Would Belgium and Canada have somehow pooled their mighty military machines and succeeded in rescuing humanity from Naziism and Communism?
No, because without the Dead White Males settling not just New England but also the territory that became CANADA (both in the continent known as North America), there is no Canada. Just indigenous peoples' with no ties to Europe.
You'd have to ask the Aztecs' what it would have meant to them (they probably would have expaned their empire signifcantly by 1938 A.D.).
America isn't as hated as the media would like us to believe. The media seeks out protests and ignores those who are silently approving or indifferent.
The Russian woman who lives with my wife and I says that America is still seen as the beacon of freedom. When she was preparing to move here, her friends and neighbors gathered around her to ask her to send photos and letters from America.
However there is a great deal of hatred for America. I attribute it to jealousy, ignorance, shame and laziness. Jealousy at the prosperity of America. Ignorance due to a constant flood of anti Americanism from the worlds media. Shame from governments that need to direct attention away from their own failures. And finally laziness because America is the easiest target.
I'd be more worried if they liked us.
I listen to Michael Medved's show (finally on the radio locally but also available on the web if you can find a streaming station).
He has good points to make about some of these issues but so much of his program is focused on highlighting such antiAmerican leftists by having them on his show as guests. It's not the exposure that bothers me; it is that a little bit of their venom goes a long way. "You hate America, I get it."
Nice, but not nearly as effective as Mark Levin's "GET OFF MY PHONE, YOU JERK!!!"
Filmmakers made "A Day Without A Mexican". Someone should make the equally implausible "What if... (America never existed)".
If we want to perpetuate a globalized economy, we will need much larger military forces to subdue and subjugate the near-constant peasant and barbarian uprisings which aready are occurring and which will intensify.
Or, we could let lots of peasants and barbarians come here, and change America into something more congenial to their stunted and perverse ways of thinking.
Or, we could drill our own oil and make our own stuff.

Just a few weeks ago, another FReeper actually told me that every single thing I've ever posted makes other people look stupid, and that I needed to put warning labels on all my future threads for their protection. Somehow, I don't think it was meant as a compliment.
He stole that line from Bob Grant!
The Left denies that Communism ever was the problem or threat that Nazism posed. The Communists in America in the 1930s urged PEACE in dealing with Hitler, that is until Hitler betrayed Uncle Joe Stalin.
Socialists have a hard time dealing with George Orwell. They like the symbolism of his books but they misapply them (the same way Michael Moore and the Left misinterpret Fahrenheit 451).
George Orwell has said that Animal Farm is about Communism in the USSR. He found it shameful the way socialists (which he apparently supported) were unwilling to be critical of Communism.
We all know Hollywood puts out wierd $hit and most of it is not watched, but travel overseas and tell them you live near Chicago and they all think I'm a mobster. For God's sake the French love Jerry Lewis!.
Laugh if you will, but the crap put out by Hollywood, slasher movies, all gay all the time movies, dysfunctional families, mass murder deification and why should we expect the rest of the world would think we have any kind of a normal life?
