America isn't as hated as the media would like us to believe. The media seeks out protests and ignores those who are silently approving or indifferent.

The Russian woman who lives with my wife and I says that America is still seen as the beacon of freedom. When she was preparing to move here, her friends and neighbors gathered around her to ask her to send photos and letters from America.

However there is a great deal of hatred for America. I attribute it to jealousy, ignorance, shame and laziness. Jealousy at the prosperity of America. Ignorance due to a constant flood of anti Americanism from the worlds media. Shame from governments that need to direct attention away from their own failures. And finally laziness because America is the easiest target.

In America you can be what you want to be (for better or worse).

No guild to join to take up a craft. You don't have to be born into the industry.

Parents don't arrange marriages.

Royal titles mean nothing. The media "tries" to create American royalty but we dismissed this notion long ago.

People changed their names when they moved here and continue to change their names as they strike out with their own identity.

You are limited by your (lack) of ambition in this country.

Nothing comes easy but there was the environment for the inventors to thrive in this country.

But even the locals aren't learning this in school or from their parents. Now we expect government to provide for us from the womb to the tomb. Give me a handout every week to get me to the next week.

A lady on one e-list I am on lives in Scotland. She says there are many who bash the U.S. all the time, but would jump at the chance to live here.
