SAN DIEGO, Aug. 22, 2006 -- An opportunity to get an education, to see parts of the world theyd only heard about or serve their country attracted 16 passengers here last evening aboard American Airlines Flight 1961, and ultimately, to 13 weeks of boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.
The 16 Marine Corps recruits, most from Texas, displayed the expected range of emotions as they boarded their flight at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, leaving behind civilian life to become Marines. Nervous laughter rippled through the group as the airline attendant called out their boarding sections, although most tried to retain a level of nonchalance as though they were taking a bus ride to the local mall. |

Soon to be Real American Heroes
God Bless those Real Americans who serve this Nation. God Bless America.
God Bless them and their families.
Here in NE Illinois, we have the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. I was at O'Hare airport the other day, a bunch of recruits were lost...I helped 'em. They were all very respectful, calling me!? "Sir"...
What a great country we have to raise such wonderful young men and women.
Compare these stars of our flag against the DRECK that protests them and the mission...

Yah,like...Holy Mother of God,what did I do???!!!
Somebody tell Donna that the Army does Basic, the Marines do Boot Camp.
Heheh.. My brother is at Pendleton for boot camp right now, some of his letters convey similar sentiments.
Those look like pretty good recruits.
God Bless America and those who serve this Nation.
Hollywood Marines.
Semper Fi!
Judy Benjamin: I think they sent me to the wrong place.
Capt. Lewis: Uh-huh.
Judy Benjamin: See, I did join the army, but I joined a different army. I joined the one with the condos and the private rooms.

LOL!
Yes, they will miss the 'joy' of sand fleas at PI.
When I hit Reception Center at Ft Knox in '69,the first think I asked was "which condo is mine?"
I can hear their Drill Instructor now....
ALL YOUR A$$e$ ARE BELONG TO US.
I had to train a guy who was in the Marines for a considerable time, from about 1995-2000, I think.
I was quite surprised to find he was a flaming pinko.
He was a formidable guy too, with elite sniper and recon training, a full sergeant. I'm sure he would serve again, and serve well too, if called up, but I was rather startled by his political opinions.
Allready Real American Heroes. Knowing that they would participate in arguably the most strenuous and challenging basic training in the world and with the knowledge that they would probably be placed in harms way within six months they still choose to enlist. Even if, by some chance, they dont make it through basic, they will be heroes to me.
