He’s not ready to run “Mitt for President” TV ads yet, but Gov. Mitt Romney has already hit the Internet with a video painting him as a hero in the battle of Beacon Hill, a move political watchers say should remove any doubt about his White House ambitions.
Romney’s Commonwealth PAC Web site now features a video of the Republican’s “great American story,” which opens with a victorious Romney standing amid falling election-night confetti.
Then, using not-so-subtle imagery, the video cuts to shots of Boston’s skyline under ominous dark clouds and crackling lightning, and an uphill shot of the State House under stormy skies. In the background, a radio reporter talks about the tremendous budget deficit that awaited Romney when he took office.
The remainder of the video features Romney and supporters, including Harvard Pilgrim head Charlie Baker, Romney’s Bain Capital co-founder Bob White, Union Baptist Church’s the Rev. Jeffrey Brown and Romney’s wife, Ann, testifying to Romney’s pro-family character and touting his health care and budget achievements and firm stance against same-sex marriage.
“He’s obviously preparing pretty well” for a White House run, said Washington-based political analyst David Mark. “He’s not even waiting until he’s out of office. He’s moving full steam ahead.”
There is no mention in the video of Democratic lawmakers’ role in passing the health care reform bill or balancing the budget, a move angering some Democrats. “It was the Democratic Legislature that steered Massachusetts back on track in 2003, thanks to the $3 billion lawmakers had set aside,” said state Democratic Party spokeswoman Cyndi Roy, adding that job growth is down and housing costs are up under Romney’s watch.
State Sen. Mark Montigny (D-New Bedford) said with a laugh, “At least he didn’t take credit for the Internet or inventing Viagra.”

Met Mitt and his wife a few years ago on vacation. They are down to earth, nice people. Considering what's out there I would back him in a minute. I doubt you would find one iota of scandal in his background.
He's extremely articulate and a tremendous contrast to who's in there now. And he's smart. How is he a RINO? I want some specifics also.

You and I would vote for him, but we need a few votes more.
I'm sorry to disagree with another long time FReeper, but here, WEST of the Mississippi, where we say "Howdy" instead of "Helloo der" Romney has about as much chance of winning prinmaries as I do. He may get away with it for a while in the Northeast and Rust Belt, but there is no way Western conservatives are going to vote for some Yankee from the state of Ted Kennedy and John Francois Kerry.
Um, hello, there's a huge difference between
A) a conservative candidate with whom one disagrees a couple of specific points
B) a candidate whose political philosophy is almost entirely in opposition to conservatism -- except for a few specific points
Barack Obama 2008, he went to HARVARD LAW SCHOOL!
How is he a RINO? I want some specifics also.

I know, i should have put a /sarc tag on. My point was that everyone screams we want someone perfect without any sin when even our best have a few kinks.

What do you think of George Allen or Bill Owens? If I were voting tomorrow, I might pick one of them as my first choice. I'm wondering whether J.C. Watts will ever come back to national politics. I still think he'd be a good candidate someday although I'm not familiar with his stand on every issue. I can't say that I'm enthusiastic about any of these candidates, but I'm still looking at the field. Of the Republican left, Guiliani, McCain, Hagel, and Romney, I think Governor Romney is the least of four evils. A good thing about his being in the race is that he'd split votes from the other four.

Owens totally boomeranged in Colorado. Got off to a fast start, some good wins, good legislation, then started going leftward, lost the whole legislature to the Dems and couldn't hold the Senate seat because he was busy patching up the marriage he broke.
Now he's limping along "cooperating" with the Dems. Pretty sad state of affairs.
Allen could be good. He's tantalizingly close. He's about 90% right on everything. On abortion, for example, he has a great pro-life voting record, pro-life groups in Virginia love him ... but he believes life begins with brainwave activity so he doesn't oppose early-term abortions. He's got a good appearance, great personal manner and very good political skills .... but he overuses football metaphors and chews tobacco, which most people think is just nasty. He's a good one to keep an eye on, and an excellent fall-back candidate, but I'm not sure exactly who he'll excite.

Unfortunately, you would have been calling Reagan a RINO by the same standard that you call Romney a RINO. Reagan was pro-choice and pro-amnesty.
I'm a huge Reagan and Romney fan . . . they actually remind me of eachother. I'm just trying to put some historical perspective on the ultra-reactionary knee-jerking against Romney here.
MSM are paying attention. IMO, the reason for all the attention on polygamy is directly related to Romney being a Mormon, even though his church does not condone polygamy.
People are underestimating Romney. I think him a formidable candidate. I am not backing anyone, as I don't really have a strong opinion yet. I am just noting that he is making an impressive showing in a few states, and I have heard from reliable sources that he has the most effective and professional team on the ground in Iowa.
Romney doesn't hold a patch on RWR. Mitt is cleverly pro-choice, pro-gun ban, pro-socialized medicine, etc., etc., etc. You must ask yourself, "How does an alleged 'Pub get elected in the bluest of the blue states?
You "can forgive his (Reagan's) indiscretion as Gov. of the Land of Fruits & Nuts?" but won't cut Romney any slack as someone in exactly the same position?
Romney got elected in MA because he "shelved" certain social issues and ran on his incredible record of a take charge exceutive, fiscal conservative, and turnaround specialist. He has delivered on all accounts.
